Dear Grandma,
Thank you. I can't even begin to describe how big of an impact you had on my life. Thank you for teaching me to cook when I was young. Cooking is such an important life skill and I will forever treasure the hours we spent in your kitchen. These are some of the sweetest memories from my childhood. I'll never forget the days when grandpa would take me to the neighbor's orchard to pick a bucket of cherries and upon our return, I would help you bake a pie. You were the only one who could make me eat my vegetables as a child and I want you to know that I eat them all on my own now.
Thank you for sharing your secrets. You taught me so many tricks about cooking that I still use today. You told me stories about your past, when you met grandpa, and all of your years together. You taught me so much about life and how to enjoy. You were always an amazing role model. I will treasure the knowledge you shared with me forever.
Thank you for always being an unwavering example of strength and wisdom. You went through so many hard times in your life. When you shared your stories, it was never for pity but rather to teach me. Up until your last day on this earth, you had such a positive attitude. You had incredible advice for any situation I was in. You knew what to say, when I was sad and upset, offended, happy, or proud. No matter what I needed, you were always there to offer it to me and for that I will always be grateful. I hope, one day, to be even half the woman you were. I am so proud to be your granddaughter and if I could be as wise and strong as you were, I would be even more proud.
You never let anything defeat you. You had cancer three times, and it still didn't defeat you. It may have killed you, but it sure as hell didn't defeat you. Up until the end of your final fight, you had such an incredible attitude. No matter how awful you were feeling, you never let it get you down. You faced everything with such grace. I can only hope to be as incredibly strong as you were. I hope that when my time comes I can face it with the same peace and strength that you had.
Grandma, I was so blessed to spend my first 18 years of life with you and not a day goes by that I don't miss you. You were (and still are) such an important and amazing piece of my life and I'm so thankful for all of the special memories we shared. Thank you for supporting me and loving me through it all.
Until I see you again, I love you.
Love,
Your Granddaughter
