Dear Best Friend,
From the moment we became friends, I knew you were going to have to leave me for the real world one day. We just didn’t think you would actually graduate. I put the thought out of my mind for as long as I could but it’s hard to believe in almost a month you will be graduating. The thought of you not being here next year is awful, but I’m so excited for you and proud of your accomplishments. You’ve taught me so much by being my friend, and I can’t thank you enough.
First of all, thank you for guiding me through my first two years of college. You made sure I didn’t make the same mistakes that you did. You’ve done it all and learned from it. I watched you crying because you put off five papers until the day before they were all due. Thanks for motivating me to write my papers ahead of time now. You’ve also taught me when you’re allowed to put yourself before school. Thanks for letting me see that I am not my GPA and that as long as I am learning something in college, I’m going to get through it.
Thank you for allowing me to come into your room crying because I did something dumb. You’ll sit there and listen and sometimes chime in on my crazy rants, which is all I need. I just want to hear that I’m not crazy and will survive another day. I always knew I could count on you as my biggest cheerleader when it came to anything. You are always on my side.
Thank you for our endless nights of shenanigans. You’re my partner in crime for any wild idea we’ve ever had. You’ve taught me to always live my life to the fullest despite what other people might think. From having a hashtag made about our friendship to people thinking we’re dating, we’re basically the greatest duo there is.
Thank you for being the big sister, future bridesmaid, mentor, and best friend I never knew I needed in my life. You’re going to do amazing things when you leave this school and I can’t wait to be there supporting you through it all.
Love,
Your Young (and still under 21) Best Friend
