Hello! I am going to be your RA next year. I know you are scared. So am I, trust me. This will be a new transition for you. Leaving home and coming to college and being on your own. It is a lot to take in. But, I promise you that I will be right there for you whenever you need it. Here are a few things that I want you as my future residents to know
:
Moving in to your dorm room is one of the most exciting things
Trust me, when you move in, it is YOUR room. You will get to decorate it as you like. (But remember to keep it clean)
You and your roommate DON'T have to be best friends.
You don't have to live up to the expectations that your roommate and you will be best friends for life, you just have to like them enough to live with them.
DON'T STAY IN YOUR ROOM
Go out and explore with your new friends. You are in a new atmosphere, go with a group to the dining hall, you will meet and create bonds with everyone.
Make sure you don't forget about your parents
Now remember you have a mom at home that is worrying about you, call her at least once a week.
(I call my Dad 3 times a day and it's totally acceptable)
Go to the gym
THE FRESHMAN 15 IS A REAL THING:
"Freshman 15" -
refers to an amount of weight gained during a student's first year at college.
If you don't like the gym, just don't eat hamburgers everyday, eat a salad or an apple once in a while
COME TO MY PROGRAMS
As your RA I will be putting on programs a LOT. So come hang out with me and your housemates and we can have lots of fun. :)
Remember it's okay to feel scared.
College is a scary transition, from being at home to being alone is huge. But remember it's okay be scared, I promise that I went through the same thing, we will work together.
So in conclusion- I promise that we will make this the best first year you could ever ask for.
