As I begin to pack up my cozy room at home and look at decor for my sophomore apartment a shiver runs down my spine and a knot forms in my stomach. Do I really have to go back? My freshman year was filled with tears and a dark dorm room- I don't want anyone to hate college like I did last year. I'm here to help. You need to know this- seriously, get your pen and note pad and start writing.

1. It's OK to cry when Mom and Dad leave.

I held back miles and miles of tears as my Mom and Dad walked out of the room. Who am I kidding? I held back miles and miles of tears one month before I left for college. I was freaking scared. I didn't want to leave the comfort of my small town- I knew everyone, everyone knew me. I was popular, why would I want to give that all away? My mom washed my clothes! Dad handed me money...I WAS SCARED, and it's ok for you to be too.

2. Definitely GO OUT during syllabus week!

Heads up! The first week of college professors are merely going over what they expect from you during the semester. BOOOORIIINGG. Take that time to go out with your roommate and meet new girls and guys that are into the same thing as you. (Frosh Tip: Everyone is going through the same thing as you- they want new friends! Use that to your advantage).

3. With that being said, time is money.

Learn how to manage your time- whether it be how you are going to studying for an exam, go to the gym, getting lunch with Becca and George all on Tuesday. First thing, BUY A PLANNER. You might have never of needed one- but girl, you do now! Professors aren't going to remind you every day about an exam. Maybe reschedule with Becca and John and rely on the Ramen Noodles your Momma got you and hit the books.

4. Look into joining something bigger than yourself.

Every campus has something their students can join. From baking club to an (insert college name here) ambassador- you can always find a way to get involved. If you are just going back and forth to classes to your dorm bed, you're going to be like me- absolutely dreading every day of college. Sororities and Fraternities are a great way to meet people, just like you. If you're into sports, look to see if they have a soccer club or lacrosse club! Get active, get involved.

5. It's OK if your roommate isn't your BFF.

There are so many things on social media that kinda plot the image in your head that your freshman roommate should be your go to gal or guy. Sometimes, they're not and that's completely OK. I wish someone told me that. If your BFF is from your Collge Writing Class that is amazing too.

6. Take your frustrations out at the gym.

Ok, I'm dead-ass. The freshman 15 is very, very real. Don't try and eat your feelings away (I know it's easier said than done) but, seriously try running a mile at the gym to ease your mind instead. You'll feel much better walking out of the gym than when you walk out of the Cafe already eaten 12 slices of cold pizza.

7. Cafe food sucks, but you're gonna have to live with it.

Every college cafe food it's going to make up want to projectile vomit. But, ladies and gents, you're just going to have to deal with it. Starving yourself isn't healthy. Bring some food from home, if you're close ask your parents to drop off some dinner. I promise you, but spring semester you'll be used to it.

8. It goes by faster than you think.

You're going to be OK. I promise you'll make it out alive. But, do everything you're thinking of doing right now when you get there. Don't hesitate, don't stereotype just do it- seriously.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
