Dear "Squad",
When I first came to Texas State University I was scared. I wasn't going to let on for anyone to see, but I was terrified that I was going to hate it here. It was my first time away from home, I knew so few people, and frankly it felt like I was staring into a dark abyss of the unknown on the night before I moved into my dorm.
Two days later, I met you people. On my first impression you were... interesting. You were just the people standing in front of me in line at the residence hall ice cream social, until I spilled chocolate syrup. It was a random, silly, slightly embarrassing accident. It was also the one time my clumsiness paid off. We got to talking, then to laughing, and the next thing we knew we were playing sardines in the quad at midnight. Now, three months later, I couldn't imagine life without you.
You are the people that turned my life into an episode of "Friends". You are the ones that walk in unannounced, because you know you are always welcome. We all seem to speak an intricate and complicated second language, composed of inside jokes and gibberish. You are the ones I watch old Disney movies with, especially the corny ones, because we respect each other's guilt pleasures. Our wardrobes seem to bleed into each other, we aren't afraid to send ugly selfies to each other, and we all hate the same people automatically.
You are the people I trust with everything I have. When we need help we can always rely on each other, whether it be money, a ride to the grocery store, or a late night taco craving. I've never had friends that supported and believed in me to the degree that you do. You're my favorite people to road trip with, and to laugh at... I mean "with". You've taught me to skip rocks, to study even when its overwhelming, and to believe in myself more than ever. When it comes to each other we go above and beyond, even if that means making it snow when it's 74 degrees outside.
You are the people I believe in, trust, sometimes worry about, support unconditionally, and will never forget. When life gets me down I know I can go to you for a smile, just as you will always be there to celebrate with me on the good days. I hope that this bond will last us a lifetime, especially because you all know too much. I've lived some of the best days and built some of the best memories with you, and I hope that we will continue to do so for years to come.
Last of all, I want to thank you. Thank you for the laughs, for caring so much, for being there when I needed you, and so much more.
Sincerely,
One Unbelievably Lucky Friend
