Dear Friend Who Deserves Better,
Sometimes a relationship can really pick you up and sweep you off your feet. Those are the kind that movies are made from and they are beautiful at their core. Unfortunately, there are relationships that can start off just the same, but they are anything but beautiful. The person you thought you loved can suddenly without warning. This is not intended to bash the significant other in your life, but it is important to understand that you deserve so much more.
You are a kind and smart person and you need to see that on your own. Just because your partner tells you that does not make it only true when he/she is saying it. You are your own person and that means at the end of the day the one you should worry about impressing is yourself. I love and care for you and I want you to see that the way you are being treated is not ok. You do not require this person’s permission to feel good about yourself. You do not require this person permission to go out and spend time with friends. And you definitely do require this person’s permission to be happy. When I noticed that you began to depend more and more this person I thought “some relationships are just like this” and then I slowly started to see that it was not healthy. You two began seeing each other all the time and you slowly started to isolate yourself from the rest of the world.
When you started using excuses for cancelling plans or being extremely late, your relationship officially became my business. This new love was interfering with a friendship that exist before you even met this person. A friendship that was built on communication, love, and support. And because of that I am telling you that the person you are with does not appreciate you. You deserve better than the person that makes you cry. You deserve better than the person that makes you feel like less than a person. You deserve better than constantly doubting the sincerity of your partner. I am saying this because I love and I hate seeing you hurt. You deserve the moon. You deserve everything your partner has to offer. Most of all, you deserve better.
Love,
Your Best Friend
