An Open Letter To My First College Bestie

Thank You for Being You

An Open Letter To My First College Bestie
Idea Stand

To my first college bestie,

This is for you.

From the day I met you, I just knew you would be the one I stuck by for the long run. Spent all my movie nights and Netflix binge-watching sessions with. Had my late night talks with on the most random topics. Made random Target runs with. And most importantly, the one I would share my new college adventure with.

Going into college, I was worried that I would just find temporary friends who would maybe stay for a while and then find someone better. I never thought I would find another forever friend, especially so quickly. But I can't thank you enough for being that person.

I vividly remember that very first night, when we were all called out of our rooms at freaking 11PM to meet our floor-mates. I would have never thought we would have become such great friends. Granted, no one really seemed like they were going to be very compatible. But once we started talking, we couldn't stop. We discovered all our common interests (and a few uncommon ones) and gradually learned more about each other. Our love for Jeffree Star, Chris Brown, and anything chocolate quickly brought us together. Along with that one time we were stranded for three hours at an abandoned park. That's sure a story to tell.

The most amazing thing was how quickly we became such a huge part of each other's lives. Now we tell each other everything and I couldn't imagine spending a day apart. We developed a daily routine of eating our sub-par dinner together while obsessing over relatable tweets and cute boys. Same time, same table, every single day. And it's always a table without salt and pepper or napkins, which we get a good laugh out of. But it's the little things like that which make our friendship so special to me.

Since I've begun living alone, you've basically moved in. Which is fair because I invade your room way too often anyways. Thanks for distracting me from doing my homework (and sometimes from writing these articles) every once and a while because you've taught me to "live a little" and not get so hung up on my academic life. College is about having fun, right?!

And last, but certainly not least, thank you for being my rock and someone who I can trust with my life and share absolutely anything with. I appreciate that more than anything.

Here's to many more laughs, chocolate brownies, and Target runs.

Much love,

Me :)

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
