Dear Doctor,
First of all, I’d like to say thank you. Thank you for informing me, answering my questions and for being the one to help me through my hydrocephalus. It has been three years since that surgery, but to this day I am thankful to have had such an amazing doctor such as you to perform this surgery on me.
I am not going to lie; the idea of having any kind of surgery scares a person. I was living a normal life, and being told that I needed immediate brain surgery was terrifying, but I thank you for helping me through every step of the way. I don’t know if you will ever know how much it all meant to me. I know you must have hundreds of different patients that thank you every day for all that you do, but I wanted to personally say everything you do means something to someone. You are an everyday superhero saving the lives of others, and I am so happy I was one of the many people you saved.
Being a doctor, I could only imagine how difficult the job must be. There is a lot of schooling involved, commitment and, of course, passion. Your commitment and passion for your job as a doctor are what saves people every day from mostly anything, whether it’s from telling us to always eat right and take our vitamins to helping us in life or death situations, the passion you have for helping patients every day is almost contagious. I must admit every time I go for a regular visit I could almost imagine myself as a doctor such as yourself. It is a tough profession, and I applaud you on all the work you go through every day.
Finally, I’d like to say thank you, once again, for everything. The work that you do is appreciated by me and I’m sure all your other patients appreciate all the work you have done for them throughout your years as a doctor. I do not know many people who write open letters to their doctor, but I do want to take this opportunity to show my gratitude and appreciation for all that you do not just for me, but for every one of your patients. With everything I have been through with you, I think this letter is a must -- especially after all that you have done for me. Just know, you will always be appreciated. I am forever grateful to the doctor who saved me.
From your appreciative patient.
