An Open Letter To My Best Friend Who Is Transferring

To My Best Friend Who’s Transferring,

As we get nearer and nearer to the time that our next year of college starts, I think about how I won’t have you with me like I did last year. Part of it saddens me, but I know it’ll be okay. Things change, including the things we want in life and how we can achieve them. I wish you weren't leaving, but don't think for a second that I don't want anything but the best for you.

I'm so glad that we met, and that we have all the memories that we do. Of course, those won't go away or fade away, but I'm going to miss being able to make new ones with you every day. I also hope you know that many of our memories will never be topped by new ones, no matter what. I'm also so grateful that we have become as close as we have because having a friend like you in my life has been one of the best things to ever happen to me.

I also know that our bond can't be broken and that we'll always be two peas in a pod whether we are a bed away, a room away, a floor away, minutes away, or hours away. We're more like siblings rather than best friends. Distance can't change that, no matter how far you may be going, or how many times I may or may not get to see you. Friendship is friendship and we've developed the best. I want you to know that you're always going to be the best of best friends to me and that you'll never be replaced as my first forever friend that I made at school.

I wish you the most on your new adventures with the new people around you, and hope that they bring nothing but joy and friendship into your life and I’m not afraid to back you up on the ones who don't. I can't wait for the new crazy stories, even though I know I'll experience some of them firsthand with you and also be able to share some of my own.

We're both in the midst of following our dreams and taking the paths that are required to become the people we want to be. We might be without one another, but sometimes it takes a few sacrifices to achieve our goals and this one is okay because it's not really a sacrifice; it's just a big change and one we might be more grateful for than we think.

I hope you know that going to different schools will not change any aspect of this relationship to me and that I am always a phone call or train ride away. I'll always be a place of familiarity and friendship for you and whenever you need me, I'll be here. I love you and I'm so grateful for you.

Cheers to our new journeys.

Love,

Your First College Forever Friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
