It seems that most pictures of Greek life are limited to Instagram and Facebook, but the new oneGreek app is on a mission to create a more in-depth way for Greeks to post and comment on pictures with one another not only from their campus, but from around the country, as well. The app is free, and no additional costs are required for any features included.
The app may seem similar to Instagram at first glance, but there are some differences. The first, and most important step when the app is first downloaded is to get verified. This is meant as a way to prevent non-Greeks from using the app. A person that is already using the app can get others in their chapter verified by texting a link to their phone. If you are the first person from your chapter to use the app, then you may have to contact the developers to get verified via email. Once you do, your chapter will appear in the app and you can begin adding others from your chapter. Anyone that is verified can verify others from your chapter if they want to join.
The second unique thing is that oneGreek will show how many likes are from guys vs girls, and also from which chapter and campus they are from. Additionally, there is a chapter page that displays all of the your chapter member's names and pictures posted as well as a campus page that displays every fraternity and sorority currently registered. This allows for users to browse pictures from users from around their campus. The app also has a search function, which allows anyone to have the ability to search for specific hashtags, campuses, and chapters from around the country.
Anyone can customize their feed by pressing the "tie" button on a chapter's page. This will provide a customized feed that only shows the houses that you have tied, such as your house's fellow chapters across the country, or different chapters on your campus. The more likes your chapter has, the more likely it is to be seen by others in the main feed. This is driven by how many likes and comments your chapter's pictures have.
Since oneGreek is new, there are going to be lots of updates to iron out some bugs or to add additional content and features. In its current state, the app looks very promising and many chapters at Michigan State's campus are starting to use it already. You can download the app for free on the Apple App Store or Google Play.
