The President of the United States is one of the most powerful people in the world. The president is the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces and leader of the executive branch of the federal government. This is an important office and the people get to choose a new leader every four years. As we head into the 2016 election I noticed that President Obama looked a lot older than he did when he took office. As you can see from the pictures gathered the level of stress clearly is shown. Dr. Michael Roizen, author of "Real Age: Are You as Young as You Can Be?" has come to the conclusion after reviewing presidential medical records that presidents age differently than a normal American citizen. Dr. Roizen says, "The typical president ages two years for every year they are in office."
During President Obama's 50th birthday party, he was asked about his appearance and replied, "Obviously, I've gotten a little grayer since I took this job, but otherwise, I feel pretty good" My question to Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, John Kasich, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders is, Why would you want to be president? We have seen how hard the presidency can be on the human body. Let's look at one of the worse terrorist attacks in America: 9/11. This event occured during President George W. Bush's first year in office and it not only changed the world but it changed President Bush.
I was able to find other examples of before and after photos of presidents like Abraham Lincoln and Richard Nixon. In each picture, you can see the how stress takes a toll on the human body. As we head into elections 2016, we should stop and think why would a person go through all the trouble of running a campaign, traveling across the United States, and leading a nation for four years only to get old faster. As Americans, we should always think of our leaders as people, not a political party or an ideology. You don't have to agree with the person's ideas, but the very least you can respect the person for standing up and saying, "I will lead this nation no matter what"
President Barrack Obama 2008-2014
President George W. Bush 2001-2008
President Bill Clinton 1993-2001
President Ronald Reagan 1981-1989
President Abraham Lincoln 1861-1865
President Richard Nixon 1969-1973
President John F. Kennedy 1961-1963
After looking at the pictures, what are your thoughts? Are you willing to sacrifice your mind, body, and soul to lead a nation? Is being a President worth losing four to eight years of your life to be a public servant? It's time to bring honor to the office of the President of the United States because in 239 years only 44 people have answered yes to those questions. I believe that we are about to see chance and our next President is going to face one of Americas biggest challenge and we will see if he/she can lead the nation for the better.
