It’s an emotional time for One Direction fans everywhere. With their On the Road Again world tour ending, their upcoming year and a half hiatus quickly approaching, and fans still adjusting to the loss of fellow band member, the one and only Zayn Malik, the band's future seems pretty hazy, to say the least.
If the rumors are reality, then One Direction has released their last album together as a group -- “Made in the A.M.,” which was released in November 2015. Last week, the band released a music video for the final track on the album, “History,” which you can watch here.
"History" is the last track on the band's standard fifth studio album called "Made in The A.M.," which sold over 93,000 copies in its first week and topped the music charts at number one on its release date in many different countries. This album was their fastest selling album to date.
This music video is a beautiful wrap-up for the group’s five yearlong journey as a band. Not only does the song have a goodbye vibe to it, the music video also sends a message that this could potentially be the last project they make together. While band members Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson serenade their audience with a brick wall backdrop, black and white flashbacks are played throughout the video. These flashbacks display their rise to fame on the "X-Factor," to video clips from their last tour, to everything in between that they have experienced together.
This video really seems as if One Direction is subtly telling the world that their time together is ending. The lyrics of the song talk about the past and how it was a great time in each of their lives. It suggests that the good times are over, but somehow they wish it were all still reality while holding on to feelings of thanks without regret. Coincidence?
Something that was very shocking as a One Direction fan watching this new music video was that Zayn Malik was featured in the video multiple times. Zayn quit One Direction in March 2015 just before the five-year mark of the band being together. After Zayn’s departure, the other four boys made it a priority to keep the band together.
Despite the noticeable differences from all of their previous music videos, One Direction really created something special this time around, not only for their fans to enjoy but for the members of the band to reflect on. No matter what happens to One Direction in the next few months, they still have an amazing support system from their loyal fans, and an unsurpassable success story depicted through this music video. This "History" music video perfectly sums up everything One Direction has done together and it serves as, essentially, their history.
