There are a great many people out there that don't enjoy seeing spoilers. Sometimes I'm one of those people, sometimes I'm not. But since I haven't seen "Captain America: Civil War" yet, I've been avoiding spoilers -- and even fan theories -- like the plague. I'd much rather be surprised by the movie, than know what I'm walking into.
You just can't plug your ears fast enough sometimes. Even if you're not part of the conversation or if you're at a social event, then chances are that you might overhear some spoilers by accident. There's really no helping it. That or your friend will accidentally spoil something for you after forgetting you haven't experienced it yet. You always sort of feel like:
That's not even the worst though. The worst is when you're talking with said friend and they start to spoil something, but cut off right in the middle when they remember they're spoiling it. Then you're just sitting there like:
Because they've usually just mentioned that some character died or is in a serious predicament and now you have to know who it is. You can't just sit in suspense and wait until you actually get to read or watch whatever it is. But then they're hesitant about finishing the spoiler! And you're not really sure that you want to hear all of it, but the suspense is really just killing you.
And then there's the articles on Facebook. Sometimes they sit there tempting you even though you know full well that there are spoilers inside. What sort of secrets do they hide? You're just dying to know. But you also know that if you see something you don't want to, you won't be able to forget it. Other times they've tempted you in with their interesting information only to slap you in the face with a spoiler halfway through with no warning whatsoever.
But indignation and even horror are far from being the only reactions to spoilers. Wherever you find them, sometimes spoilers can even be comforting. Like for example, if you find out a character you were concerned about happens to live through the series.
You weren't exactly sure you wanted to see the spoiler, but at least you have a little peace of mind now that you have.
Because that's the thing about spoilers. Whether you love them or hate them, no matter how hard you try, you can't forget them. The cat's out of the bag, and the shock of the secret is gone. But we've all got to make the best of it because spoilers are everywhere, and there's no way to avoid all of them all the time.
That's all for now. May you all stay spoiler free! (If you want to, that is.)
