Even though I am turning 20 in December, I consider myself an old soul. For as long as I can remember, a lot of people who know me have called me an old soul and I don't mind because I am proud of being old soul. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being an old soul because it's part of what makes me different. After all, being different is a good thing. Recently, I took one of those Playbuzz quizzes. This particular one was called "What is Your Mental Age". After my results were calculated, I got 60 years old as my mental age. The description underneath the result was spot on because I could relate to everything it said, especially the part that said something about not being into wild adventures and being satisfied with my life. So without further ado, let us go into detail about what exactly makes me an old soul.
1. I don't relate to my generation
I'm just not into a lot of the activities my peers engage in such as getting "wild" on a Friday night. I am perfectly content with cooking a nice dinner for the family, taking it easy, and playing video games on my Nintendo 64. Besides, Friday nights are a time to rest from the busy week we have all had.
2. I prefer to hang out with older people
Based on my experiences with hanging around older people, there wasn't a whole lot of swearing and gossiping (I'm not into things like that either). I think it's so much fun spending time with those who are older than me! I go to this exercise class and the people in that class are in their 50s, 60s, and 70s. Even though, I am the "baby" of the group, I always have a good time spending time with them. And yes, we do get silly at times.
3. I am alone most of the time
This is similar to the fact that I have trouble relating to my generation. I find it hard to make friends because of this, so I spend a lot of time by myself.
4. I tend to have "wisdom beyond my years"
For example, if one were to jump to the conclusion that someone is in a bad mood just because they are a bad person, I think of possible reasons behind a person's bad mood.
5. I feel "old"
Kind of like how some people are "young at heart", I tend to be "old at heart".
Well, there you have it. These are the main reasons why I am old soul. Even though it comes with some downsides (e.g. being alone most of the time and having trouble making friends), being an old soul is a quality of mine that I will never change. To all you old souls out there, embrace your inner old person! It's part of what makes you special.
