The first week that you come home for the break is always a sort of hibernation period. Mainly this means that Netflix will be buffering more than usual and your cute clothing will barely see the light of day. During this period I like to act like the little kid I wish I still was, this means binge watching my old favorite TV shows and movies. It is during this time (when I am still on my wacky finals sleeping schedule) that I notice the old hit shows I used to love are from the wee hours of 12 a.m.-4 a.m. It is during these few hours where I relive my childhood, I noticed during this time the wholesome comedy that these shows have in regards to the new shows that kids are supposed to watch nowadays has changed drastically.
Here are some reasons why the old Disney movies and TV shows will always be better than the new.
1. Two words: Lizzie McGuire
2. There was a controlled sassiness to the characters.
3. The life lessons those characters learned were actually plausible and realistic.
4. The girls weren't rude; they were mostly humble and actually funny.
5. There wasn't as much programmed laughing.
6. Disney Original Movies were so much better (Luck of the Irish, Zenon, HSM, Wendy Woo Homecoming Warrior, Cadet Kelly).
7. It was a wholesome family comedy for all ages.
8. Boy Meets World > Girl Meets World
9. The songs were catchy and actually had meaning.
10. Girls did not chase boys as obviously; they seemed more independent.
11. You could actually see some of the characters in concert (Hilary Duff, Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers).
12. Even the 5-minute special shows (in the transition from movies to regular programming) where cute! (Shawn the Sheep!!)
13. DisneyChannel.com games were so much fun, who remembers stacking the Lilo and Stitch sandwich or doing playing guitar with Hannah Montana.
14. Lining up at Limited Too to get the latest Jonas Brothers album.
15. Did you even watch Cadet Kelly if it didn’t inspire your to go to a military academy… or play with ribbon wands.
16. The haunted hotel episode of Suite Life of Zack and Cody was actually kind of scary (but now is hilarious).
17. Scheduling sleepovers for when the next Disney Original Movie came out (HSM 2 sing-along edition)
18. No matter how many times you watch season 1 of Hannah Montana it would never get old
19. When Aaron Carter guest appeared on Lizzie McGuire’s Christmas episode we all swooned
20. The episodes where the shows crossed over into each other were great!
