I took a week off from writing due to personal endeavors, and needless to say, I felt absolutely lost the entire time that I wasn’t scattering my brain, searching for topics I needed to let out. Finally, it hit me. I needed to write about the fact that it’s perfectly okay to move on; move on from relationships, from friends, from schools… basically from anything that no longer serves you or helps you grow.
I want to start out by expressing my gratitude to the people that are no longer in my life for helping me learn and grow as an individual, but also instilling values and morals into me. I could not be the strong, confident and knowledgeable woman I am today.
However, with my gratitude comes relief. I’m relieved to not be a part of each other’s world anymore. I am a completely different person than I was when you knew me. The fact of the matter is, we don’t know each other anymore; and my goal is to keep it that way. It’s natural to outgrow people and their values and behavior. Sometimes it’s even mutually drifting apart.
If people are no longer benefiting you and only bringing negativity and problems into your life, it’s OK to let them go. You can’t lose yourself trying to make someone else happy.
Sometimes, if you’re around someone and they just constantly make you feel sad, or drained or unimportant, it might be time to rid of that negative presence. You can even feel like you give them so much but get nothing in return, but you deserve more than this. Life is too short to inhabit someone who doesn’t deserve your company and energy.
The process of letting people go is often seen as being selfish, but in reality, it is a positive thing because being selfish isn’t always bad. You’re taking care of yourself and your mindset and your outlook, and that is the most important thing you could ever do for yourself. Focusing on bettering yourself and increasing your own happiness is a good thing. Time is of the essence, and you don’t deserve to inhabit people that do not benefit you and the future and present goals you want to achieve in life.
The MOST important bit of advice that I want everyone reading this to understand is that not everyone you let go, is a loss. Please don’t misinterpret, letting someone you love go, whether it be a friendship, partnership, or family member, is heartbreaking and not something anyone can take lightly. It will never be easy. You’re losing someone you have years of memories with, you’ve shared things with them that you never have shared before, and countless nights of staying up all night just laughing at anything, but things change, just as people do and if they are no longer supporting, loving, and respecting you, I need you to know that it is okay to let go of people. It is okay, and everything will be okay in the end.
I don’t know where any of you are in your life right now, but I know where I am, and I wish I could fully express how satisfied and content I am, just by living my life without negative, hurtful people. Please just always remember, that it’s OKAY to let go of people who no longer contribute to your wellbeing.
So with this I ask you to move on. It’s Okay to Move On
