As the College Football season got going this past weekend, we saw plenty of craziness across the country. Top 10 teams lost to un-ranked teams, Heisman trophy hopefulls' balled out and the Ohio State Buckeyes showed just how dominant they are, with a 77-10 win over Bowling Green.
Although the win was only against a weak Bowling Green team, the Buckeyes, led by junior Quarterback J.T. Barrett showed the country that they mean business this season. The young group doesn't have much experience as they have only 6 returning starters from last season. Last years' group included the likes of Cardale Jones, Ezekiel Elliot, Joey Bosa, Darron Lee and more. Those guys are all playing in the NFL now, which leaves gaps on the Buckeyes roster, but they have experience at the most important position; Quarterback.
J.T. Barrett has been here before and he knows what he's doing, which is what you want from your leader. After Saturday's performance, Barrett should absolutely be considered as a Heisman Trophy candidate. Barrett tied his own school record with 6 passing TD's, without even playing a full game. Barrett also threw for 349 yards and added another TD on the ground.
BGSU started the game by intercepting Barrett and going up 7-0, but that would be the only time all game that they would sniff any sort of success. Barrett and the Buckeyes scored not long after on a 49 yard Touchdown pass from Barrett to K.J Hill and another to Dontrel Wilson, and never looked back after that.
A 35-10 game at half turned ugly in the second half when the Buckeyes scored 42 un answered points. Bowling Green was noticeably shaken and there was nothing they could do to stop Ohio State's power house offense.
The Buckeyes broke an 86 year old team record by totaling 776 yards of total offense, which is absolutely incredible. Most college football experts believe the Buckeye's inexperience will lead to a few losses this season, but clearly the team is proving everyone wrong, at least so far.
Alabama, Clemson and Florida State are the favorites to win it all, but people should be taking this Buckeyes team more seriously, especially after the performance they put on Saturday. This team will go as far as J.T. Barrett takes them, and he's more than capable of taking them all the way. Barrett is healthy this season and doesn't have to worry about someone taking his starting job, which will bode well for the Buckeyes this season. Look out everyone, because the Ohio State Buckeyes are the real deal.
