An Ode to Blink-182

Because my band crush is still strong.

An Ode to Blink-182

We all have a band that got us through the ultimate awkward years of middle school. For me, that band was Blink-182.

The first boy I ever had a crush on had a thing for the song "All The Small Things." So naturally I was obsessed with it, even though we fought over whether "Yellowcard" was better. From there, the love just grew stronger. The emotional lyrics and punk boy band vibe was too good to resist. I was in sixth grade, but ya know what, Blink-182 just got me.

Fight with your best friend over AIM? Blink-182. Got grounded? Blink-182. Bad grade on an algebra test? Blink-182.

When my seventh grade boyfriend moved away, I listened to nothing but the song "I Miss You" for weeks on end. He passed away years later and the song's meaning never changed. This band just knows how to console me when I'm feeling angsty. They've got a song for every mood and each and every one of them just brings me back.

Last week, a freshman I know asked me who Blink-182 was, so to him may I just say that you are missing out my friend. Do yourself a favor and listen to the emotional roller coaster that is "Adam's Song." Your life will not be the same.

There are some bands that don't get the rep they deserve, and I think Blink is one of them. I think we all know that they got us through some hard times when we were growing up, and I for one am still doing some growing up. I listen to Blink when I study or when it's raining or when I feel like blaring music and screaming along.

They still get through some pretty difficult things and it's been ten years since I had a crush on that boy and fell for that song. That's why this Thanksgiving Blink-182 will be on my list. I'm thankful for their music and for making me feel less awkward about my first date.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
