With Season 22 of "Dancing with the Stars" coming to an end, the pressure for a winner is on. Among the finalists is Nyle DiMarco, who is partnered with Peta Murgatroyd. Despite the pair's remarkable dancing skills, the most shocking and amazing part is the fact the Nyle is deaf.
Yes, he is deaf, yet still able to carry out the routines, communicate with Peta and most importantly, have fun and enjoy himself.
A common misconception that people have about the deaf community is that it limits their abilities to enjoy themselves. Nyle proves this conception wrong. He has shown the viewers, and everyone who has heard about him, that just because one may be deprived of a particular sense or show a difference, it shouldn't hinder them from trying new things or doing things they love. He says, "His Deafness is an asset and not a limitation."
In addition being a dancer, Nyle is a model, actor and activist. Of his many accomplishments, some include being the winner of "America's Next Top Model," a deaf ambassador, an actor on the show "Switched At Birth," as well as a signer and creative collaborator on The ASL (American Sign Language) App. He always says that being deaf doesn't matter when it comes to success, because with success comes pride. Coming from a family of 25 deaf members, including his parents, grandparents and two brothers, he doesn't consider deaf a disability because it's all he has ever known. He says, "It's how you do your work, how you pursue your dreams" that counts, regardless of your differences.Nyle is not only an inspiration to the deaf community, but one to everyone he encounters and everyone who supports him. He shows that having a difference doesn't make you weaker, but stronger. Although it may make you feel different, it adds to your uniqueness. He shows that regardless of what the media or people in general have to say about the "ideal" person, it's not true. You have to learn to be true to yourself and embrace your flaws and differences.
Therefore, if you have a disability or difference, don't hinder it or be embarrassed by it. Embrace it and live up to your full potential, because everyone is different, and accepting those differences is what makes the world diverse.
Keep it up Nyle - you're an inspiration to all, and we are all rooting for you!
