While I was in high school, my drill team director(s) meant a lot to me, but it wasn't until after I had already graduated and left that I realized how much they shaped me as a person. They put their heart and souls into their girls, and don't get much in return. I am a better, stronger person today because of them. The things they taught me I carry with me everyday. Drill team directors never get the thank you's or credit they deserve, so I wanted to dedicate this one to them.
Thank you for teaching me discipline
The outfits, the rules, the demerits, and everything else taught me that a little discipline never hurt anyone.
Thank you for teaching me how to be organized
It would have been impossible to survive drill team if I wasn't. This skill has helped me succeed in everything else I do.
Thank you for teaching me the beauty of lipstick
A little color on your lips can do wonders.
Thank you for teaching me grace and poise
In my actions, my movements, and my words, you taught me how to hold myself with elegance.
Thank you for teaching me to be on time
You aren't on time if you aren't at least five minutes early.
Thank you for teaching me the value in hard work
Practicing hours on end for a one-time, three minute performance might seem silly to some people but nothing worth doing comes easy.
Thank you for holding me to a higher standard
Whether it was in school or with boys, you believed I could do better and so I did do better.
Thank you for enduring crazy weather so we could do what we loved
You endured the heat, the rain, and the cold all so we could perform.
Thank you for giving up your time
You gave up your evenings, your weekends, and even some holidays and spent them with your team.
Thank you for all the food
You always seemed to have extra food or drinks in your office and you were always willing to share.
Thank you for being a second mom
You are family to me and you always will be. Thank you for being a listening ear and someone I could go to for advice. Thank you for all the hugs and the tough love because it helped shape me into the person I am today.
