Reshma is an Indian You-tuber who has make-up tutorial videos, but unlike most, her videos come with a very relevant and scary issue she wants you to pay attention to.
18-year-old Reshma is an acid attack victim associated with, Make Love Not Scars. An organization who plans to use their You-tube channel to make a real difference. With only three videos so far - how to get perfect red lips, how to do your eyeliner and how to get rid of dark spots, she has gotten over a million views in one week. At the end of all of her videos, she urges you to sign a petition to stop the sale of acid. Acid is as easy to obtain as makeup is and she even mentions how its cheaper: 100 rupees($1.50) vs. 30 rupees (45 cents)
Reshma demands change! So many people, especially girls, are victims of acid attacks. Make Love Not Scars was founded by Ria Sharma, designed to help those who are victims of these attacks..
"Despite a 2013 order by the supreme court of India to stop the open sale of acid and carry out tighter restrictions on distributors, activists in India say dangerous materials — toilet-cleaning acid, for instance — are still readily available. In March, India’s Ministry of Home Affairs reported that 309 acid attacks were reported in 2014. That number is higher than what has been reported in recent years in part because of better systems to report the attacks, and because acid attacks have only recently been classified as a separate crime. must bring this issue to attention" - Seattle Times
