Don't Give Up, Even When You Want To

You have to keep trying, even if it seems like all is lost.

There are many points in life where we think it would just be easier to give up altogether. Trial and error starts very early on in life. For example, when you start learning to crawl as a baby. None of us got crawling on the first try. Most of us probably face planted into the ground.

Then, when we first started walking, we eventually got it but not on the first try. Then, all throughout grade school, we get good and bad grades. We get tutored because we do not understand something. This happens all throughout life, whether we like it or not.

It may happen with a test that you did not pass on the first try. A job you did not land. I experienced not passing a test recently. I know that if I study hard I can pass it the second time. They even said I was very close the first time. I made a vow to myself to pass it the second time and to always work hard.

If you do not want to fail, then don't. It is as simple as that. You are in control of your life and how you do. You just have to be willing to put the work in. Laziness is a major part of this. You are laying in bed one night and see the book that you need to study from sitting on the dresser across the room. You think, "Oh I still have time to study." Then. you go to sleep without a care in the world.

It is OK for that one time, but then you keep doing it until there is no time left to study. This is a mistake that most people make. It is a mistake that I, myself, make. Now, I know not to do that because, honestly, it only hurts you in the long run.

You are in control. If the test is in three months, still study three months before, not a week before. Also, do not beat yourself up if you do not pass a test. You are only human and us humans make mistakes. Mistakes are things that we learn from.

This applies to everything we do every day. The mistake may be little or it may be big. Do not beat yourself up because you do not do everything right. We are only human. We are not robots, despite what society thinks.

Remember the quote everyone knows, "If at first, you do not succeed, try and try again." Make sure you are prepared for tests and any school work. Do not be afraid to ask for help because one moment of feeling vulnerable can turn into a lifetime of ability.

The most important thing is that you move on from a failure because without failure there is no success. Do not dwell on the past because that hurts your mental stability. The smartest people in the world even fail at times. It is part of life. Never ever give up.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
