You Don't Have To Be Perfect

Perfection... what does that even mean? "I want my makeup to be perfect.""I need this day to go perfectly." We hear and say these statements all the time. But none of us are perfect. This isn't meant to put anyone down by no means. It's okay to not be perfect. What surrounds people today are pictures, shows and celebrities showing us who they think we should be. To them, we should be a certain weight, height, have specific brands of clothing, have a certain hairstyle and hang out with a certain group of people.

But why are we listening to all of this nonsense? What happened to just being true to ourselves and being unique? There's nothing wrong with either of those things. We are all too concerned about buying the right makeup and clothes while blinding copying and following others.

I've spent so much of my time trying to be perfect that it got to the point where I was becoming someone I wasn't. Never go down that road. Not everyone is going to like your decisions. Not everyone is going to like how you did your hair today or the picture you posted on Instagram. Guess what, though? None of their opinions matter because they are just that... opinions. They aren't facts.

Remember that not everyone is going to like and accept you. What's important is that you accept yourself and you not only like yourself but love yourself. Because at the end of the day that's all that matters. It can be hard to accept yourself and love yourself, especially when there's so much negativity surrounding you. You are strong, though, and can overcome it all. Accept yourself and someone will too.

Is it worth trying to do things a certain way and look a certain way to make others like you while you don't even like yourself? Spoiler: the answer is no, it's not worth it. Why would you want to be liked by people who don't like you for the person you actually are?

What I am trying to say is simple. Be you. Be yourself. And be happy.

Don't wear makeup because you feel like you have to. Do it because you want to and it makes you feel pretty. Don't go out and spend tons of money on certain outfits because you want to fit in. Wear something you will feel comfortable in.

If you want to dye your hair purple or four different colors combined, then go for it. If you are comfortable with wearing sweatpants and no makeup, that's totally fine and you should do it. If you want to eat five slices of pizza, by all means, I will join you. There is no certain way we should act, look or dress.

We are all human and we will all make mistakes and have our bad days. We can't always look, act or be "perfect" because there is no such thing. The only thing we can be is ourselves. We should want to be different. Be unique. Being like everyone else is boring. Don't let the world miss out on seeing the real you. Forget all this perfection nonsense and stop trying to please everyone. Be happy with yourself and do what makes you happy because you don't have to be pefect.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
