No Expectations And No Disappointments For 2018

Instead of worrying so much about your resolution for 2018, have no resolution at all.

No Expectations And No Disappointments For 2018
Sarah Peterson

As the new year comes storming in faster than the last one, you start to panic about which New Year's resolution you can actually keep up with. You’ve tried them all: losing weight, saving money, and being a better person.

No matter how hard you try, you find yourself slipping away from it. By the time next December follows through, you realize you’ve got nothing accomplished.

Instead of worrying so much about your resolution for 2018, have no resolution at all. Have no expectations!

You shouldn’t have to put your happiness on a time limit. When you are working towards a goal, there is no period of time in when you have to accomplish it.

If you don’t feel like now is the time to work towards or even accomplish your goal, don’t make yourself do so just because you posted a Facebook status saying that you were going to. Truthfully, you will never fully reach your goal unless you put 100% of yourself into it; if you aren’t mentally ready, you’ll never make it to the finish line.

Stop having expectations for the person you see in magazines or movies. Be the person that makes YOU happy.

Stop worrying so much if the person you are makes the people you surround yourself with happy.

Stop telling yourself that this year will be better than the last. Stop telling yourself that you're going to shut out all the negative people and everyone who treats you poorly.

The truth is that as soon as you see them walking down the hallway, you’re going to act as if they didn’t stab you in the back a thousand times before. Those people who brought so much negativity in your life were there to teach you a lesson, so stop telling yourself you wish you never met them.

Have no expectations when it comes to other people. For all you know, they could be putting on that mask you’ve been wearing all along.

Sometimes having no expectations in life is better than having any expectations at all. Take it day by day and only do the things that make you happy.

Stop trying to have so much control over your life, and just let go. If you don’t have any expectations, you have no disappointments.

The sky's the limit.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
