If you would've told me a year ago that I would be utterly obsessed with the infamous Bachelor/Bachelorette reality TV show on ABC I would've said you're crazy -- those shows are so pointless. But here I am, writing about my infatuation with about two dozen 27-year-old hotties making out with a practical stranger on my TV screen.
If you're like me and haven't been in "The Bachelor" game too long, there has been 20 seasons of reality drama so far. In each season, there is one bachelor, a very handsome 30-something year old man who is "on the search for true love." These 24 or so drop-dead gorgeous 20-something women are now "coming to find love" with said bachelor.
So let's cut to the chase, who is this Nick fellow who was just chosen to be season 21's Bachelor?
Nick Viall, 31, was on season 10 and 11 on "The Bachelorette" and season 3 of the Bachelor in Paradise, a new spin off show for those contestants who "still want to find love" but were sent home on either the Bachelor or the Bachelorette season they were on previously.
Here are some of my thoughts on the new season:
1. The new Bachelor should've been Chase from last season of the Bachelorette.
Chase McNary, 27, was my favorite contestant last season, and definitely deserved to win the whole thing. The poor guy got sent home right after confessing his love for JoJo in the fantasy sweet, moments before you know what was about to happen.
He handled the situation with as much grace as someone could possibly show under the circumstances and was even witty in his remarks leading up to his departure. As funny as his anger was, he even came back to the rose ceremony and apologized for his actions... what a man! The first guy to not only swallow his pride and be a gentlemen, he even apologized for his few moments of weakness...wow.
Apparently he's said to be just too boring to be next the Bachelor.
2. Nick looks just like every other southern man in America.
He's cute, I'll admit it, but he's nothing special. Will we have another boring Ben Higgins (The Bachelor, season 20) or will Nick spice things up and actually give some personality to this show?
3. Nick clearly likes the spotlight of being on a televised dating show.
Are Nick's intentions pure or is he just power hungry like Jordan, winner of the past season of The Bachelorette, was rumored to have been? You never know what these people are actually in it for when a reality TV show takes 25 random people to compete for one stranger's heart in just six weeks.
4. On the other hand, this show cannot actually help two people find true love in six weeks, so who cares about this Nick guy, right?
If a normal person was struggling to "find love" on their own, they would turn to a dating website or Tinder, or any of the dating apps that are available today. But when you're 30 and one of the most gorgeous people on this earth (like everyone on these shows), I think you are perfectly capable of 'finding love' on your own like a normal person.
5. I can't believe I even care about this dumb show...
But it's true. The drama is so juicy, the cat-fights are just ridiculously crazy, and almost all of these guys automatically act like girls when they get behind the camera... Drama is what entices and drama is what entertains. I love watching drama. Reality TV is what I live for, because I hate drama in my reality more than anything else in this world.
If you are skeptical about this show, I think you have every right to be, I think you're right about not wanting to watch the show. But I would encourage everyone to try it this season of the Bachelor. If it's not for you, then fine. Turn it off. But you'll be surprised how interesting this show can get when you meet the new girls coming through...you won't want to stop watching.
Let's just watch how Nick's journey to find love goes this year. It should be interesting to say the least.
