As Sunday night is winding down with an exciting Cowboys vs Saints game upon us, plenty of thoughts have been going around in my head about how this NFL season has looked so far. Even though it is only four weeks in, many preseason predictions look far from right and some NFL teams have changed drastically already. With this happening, I've compiled a list of my disappointments so far, as well as some story lines that have excited me as an NFL fan.
Disappointment: The Antonio Brown drama

This should be a disappointment everyone should agree on. Especially since Brown is one of the games best receivers, not seeing him out there for reasons like his are just irritating. Following brief stints with the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots these last few months, Brown finds himself out of the league and questioning his future in the NFL. Brown has simply been an NFL-diva, causing problems everywhere he has been. I believe that at this point if the New England Patriots couldn't handle him, this man might be deemed "uncoachable". Then again, the allegations against Brown came at a terrible time for Brown, amidst him just getting over the Raiders drama. I still have hope that if these allegations against Brown are proven false, he still has a chance to return to the league and be the threat he was once in Pittsburgh. And if this does happen, I believe Brown needs to show the public and the NFL that he is ready to move on from the past and focus solely on football. Even with this history, I still think teams will have significant interest in him. Realistically, I don't see Brown returning this season. Expect for him to sign a one-year prove-it deal with a team in the playoff picture. If Brown can put these last few months in the past and return to playing football, Brown has a chance as cementing himself as an all-time great.
Exciting: The continued success of Patrick Mahomes and the electric Chiefs' Offense

No matter what team you are a fan of, you have to admit that Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are one special duo. The arm talent that Mahomes possesses and the playmaking-genius of Reid is a generational combination. Even though the Chiefs don't have a star running back, they make up for it in their aerial attack. Headlined by speedy receiver Tyreek Hill and reliable tight end Travis Kelce, Mahomes has plenty of options to air it out to. Despite a bad game from Mahomes against the Lions, he has been fantastic in the other three games. Even though Hill is out right now, the receiving group has stepped up and made the absence of Hill a lesser problem. It will be hard though for the Chiefs to beat out the Patriots in the AFC without a respectable run game, but you can't count out Mahomes from shocking the world.
Disappointment: Injuries to stars

Saquon Barkley, Nick Foles, Drew Brees, and Ben Roethlisberger have all come down with significant injuries within the first few weeks that have put their teams in tough situations. Even though Saquon and the Giants are far from playoff contenders this year, his presence will be missed as Duke-product Daniel Jones settles in at quarterback for the Giants. For Nick Foles, he will have to wait again for his chance to go out and lead a team. Following an injury in Week 1, Foles will be forced to watch fan-favorite Gardner Minshew lead the Jaguars. Brees will only miss a few weeks (around 6), but his presence in the Saints offense is one former pro-bowler Teddy Bridgewater can't replicate. The Saints can only hope they can hold up and be poised to still make a playoff run when Brees returns. Roethlisberger like Foles will miss the whole year, and have to hand over the reigns to second-year quaterback Mason Rudolph. With Big Ben, it's hard to imagine the Steelers have a chance at making the playoffs in a tough AFC North division.
Exciting: Elevated Play from Doubted Players

To start the season, some players have looked determined to prove the critics and analysts wrong with strong starts to begin the 2019-2020 campaign. A few notables are Vikings running back Dalvin Cook, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. For Vikings running back Dalvin Cook, he has been the lead back on a newly focused run heavy team. Showed evident by a staggering ten passing attempts in their Week 1 game versus the Falcons, Cook has been the Vikings main source of offense. Cook has produced 100+ rushing yard in three out of four games this season, with his only non-100 yard game coming against the Bears star-powered defense. Regardless, Cook has proven the critics that when he is on the field, he can ball. For Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, he finds himself thriving under new OC Kellen Moore. Moore has tapped into Prescott and propelled him into the early running for MVP. Everything seems to be clicking for the Cowboys, and Prescott is utilizing his tools and turning it into results. Lastly, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is on a mission to prove those wrong who believed he isn't even capable of playing quarterback at the NFL level. Jackson has started the season strong, appearing to have a bigger focus on his passing rather than his running. Jackson has 11 touchdowns (10 passing, 1 rushing) and 2 interceptions through Week 4. If Jackson can manage to get the Ravens into the playoffs and perform well this season, the critics may back-off Jackson and begin to see his talent.
