With "Jersey Boys" leaving a fresh trail of show-stopping numbers from the original heartthrobs, the Peace Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Greenville, South Carolina, is gearing up for their 25th anniversary and the next Broadway shows to take over our Southern stage. Taking my cue from all the shopping malls that have bypassed Thanksgiving and leapt to Christmas, let's move up a few weeks to....
Disney's production of "Newsies"!
Yes, this exuberant musical remake of the 1992 Disney movie is coming to the Peace Center Concert Hall Stage in just seven weeks!
Running the week after Christmas at the Peace Center, this rocking musical is a must-see for the entire family.
Award-winning dance numbers -- tap routines on top of tables, chairs, and even a stack of newspapers- - will make this real-life story of the New York Newsboys Strike of 1899 come to life over a century later.
Unfamiliar with the show? Follow the original “Captain Jack,” the 17-year-old leader of the Newsboys who dreams of leaving New York City for the open plains and promises of the Wild West, as soon as he helps the newsboys win the strike. Finding family and love in unexpected places will stop Jack and the audience in their tracks, revealing the love and joy that surrounds each member of this ragtag band of boys.
Endless amounts of talent, excitement, and the promises of tomorrow await the newsboys and every person who chooses to go on this adventure with this stellar cast.
Haven't heard the soundtrack? It's time to fix that.
Tickets for the event are already on sale. Seize the day… and buy tickets here! I'll see you there.
