I’m in a New York state of mind.
All my other thoughts are left behind.
I’m envisioning the Broadway billboards,
the bright lights, the big screens,
showing previews of movie scenes.
Since I was a little dreamer at the young age of 9
to be on Broadway was a dream of mine.
I’m in a New York state of mind.
Longing to walk around the streets during winter time,
hearing the bells chime.
Bundled in layers of clothing, watching the snow fall and the Christmas lights glowing.
Sitting on a park bench holding a cup of hot chocolate so tight,
staring up at the stars in the midnight sky.
I’m in a New York state of mind.
A concrete jungle filled with believers and dreamers.
People that imagine,
people that have a passion.
A place filled with action and fashion.
I’m in a New York state of mind.
To wake up to watch the sunrise,
the smell of coffee fills the room.
Music playing in the background, Sinatra’s “Fly Me To The Moon.”
Then, onto Billy Joel’s classics
that play along side of the city traffic.
I’m in a New York state of mind.
In love with the Manhattan skyline.
Coffee stained paper from writing in the cafes.
Putting emotions into words on cloudy, rainy days.
I’m in a New York state of mind
And have been for a long time.
I want to experience the craziness of New Year’s Eve in Times Square,
ice skate at Rockefeller Center with snow tangling up my hair.
Nosed red and cold, and maybe a hand to hold.
I’m in a New York state of mind…
All my other thoughts are left behind.
