New York Fashion Week 2015

The first few days of NYFW left many speechless, many in awe and many excited for their style inspiration for Fall/Winter 2015.

New York Fashion Week 2015

Friday the 13th and Valentine's Day did not cause a lull in the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. The multitude of designers were prepared and ready to spend their days showing off the latest looks of Fall/Winter 2015 in one of the greatest fashion capitals of the world: New York City.

There were many celebrity sightings throughout NYFW. Rihanna, Blake Lively, Kesha and Beyonce were there, to name a few. Kendall Jenner made a great appearance as a model on the runway at Alexander Wang's show. Kanye West even had his own runway show for his Adidas collaboration.

Carrie Hammer made history and news all around the world due to her runway show at NYFW 2015. She called her show "Role Models Not Runway Models" and instead of using the typical leggy six foot models seen at other runway shows, Hammer decided to use extraordinary clients to show off her looks. These clients included women of all ethnicities, sizes and circumstances. Dr. Danielle Sheypuk modeled Hammer's line as the first NYFW model in a wheelchair. American Horror Story's Jamie Brewer also made history as the first model with Down's Syndrome to be in a runway show.

The first few days of New York Fashion Week displayed many recreatable and noteworthy trends for Fall/Winter 2015. Some of these first few shows included Lacoste, BCBGMAXAZRIA and Alexander Wang.

Throughout the Lacoste runway show, you could easily tell that stripes would be in style this fall for women. And not just any stripes, but thin diagonal stripes were seen upon collared dresses, coats and turtleneck dresses. The menswear collection depicted multiple color combinations of long earthy colored trench coats placed over bright track suits. Geometric shapes were also seen multiple times on the runway scattered upon structured jackets for men.

The BCBGMAXAZRIA runway show had a multitude of tribal prints scattered on outfits. Dark turtlenecks were oftentimes paired with tribal structured jackets. The colored jacket layered atop a plain top adds a sophisticated feel to any outfit. Many earthy colors such as sand, taupe and grey were seen on numerous models throughout the show. Wide horizontal stripes were seen on dresses meeting at the top of the over-the-knee boots of the model.

Alexander Wang definitely had a dark feel to his runway show. Not only was the music serious and menacing, but the range of colors in his show were mostly black and dark grey with the occasional pop of red. Most of the models wore dark black boots and had hair styled wet and usually covering parts of their faces. The clothing designs oftentimes had visually apparent zippers going up the front of a top instead of the back, as well as studded boots, jackets and bags. The clothing appeared to be a close take on menswear as many of the outfits were androgynous in appearance. Wang included a few patterns such as diamond silver patterns atop black outfits as well as a red and black checkerboard pattern.

New York Fashion Week 2015 has already begun to make history in a few short days. I am very excited to see what the rest of the week holds for designers, models and fashion lovers like myself.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
