People of all walks of life come to New York City for various reasons. It’s the big city of dreams, it’s the place you come to make it big, it’s the city that never sleeps.
There's been so many songs and movies about New York, that once you are here, you immediately want to experience the life of a New Yorker. I'm sure you have all heard and know the very famous lyrics of Alicia Keys song "New York" and how she describes the streets. I'm going to elaborate on who are the New Yorkers and what they are made off.
There are five boroughs of New York City. Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island. Each of these boroughs have their own pros and cons however, they are what makes New York so special! So, this is for the people who are seeking to make the big move to the big apple.
PROS
1.Delicious Food: Living in New York you'll never have to choose between two or three restaurants. We have tons of different cuisines to choose from with unique traditions. Each one you enter you get to experience something new. From world, fabulous steakhouse like KEENS to having the best sushi at Sushi Yasuda.
2. The Nightlife: There's no place in the world with a better nightlife like the Big Apple.Nightlife in New York is nothing you've seen before, from great music, crazy outfits, and hearing stories about sex, drugs more. If you've ever seen the movie or read the book about the Great Gatsby just imagine that you will get a peek of how New Yorkers love to party.
3.Good Looking People: You can NOT walk on the streets of New York without seeing some of the worlds most stunning women and handsome men. This city is always on hottie alert! from movie stars to supermodels this place is full of people from different countries.
4. Multi - Cultural Environment: Every street you turn on in New York City has a special story to tell. We have some great historical places. The city is diverse in that culture reeks at every turn within the city. Due to the diversity, there's never a dull moment in finding something to do.
5. Communities: When living in the big apple there will be times where you will find yourself very pleased and amazed how beautiful it is. Watching the sunset from the top of the hill in my bedroom always seems to amaze me. (COMMUNITIES – more so the neighbors, coming together as one big unit)
6. Easy Access to Transportation: I love that we don't have to drive if we do not want to. Driving in New York will give you a crazy mean headache daily. No one said you can't drive but if you have the subway that's always running and the bus at every corner why stress yourself out so much in traffic. Commuting around New York City is not too difficult, other than buses and the subway we have access to Uber.
CONS:
1.High Cost of Living: if you were planning on moving to New York City I hope that you have budgeted your whole life savings... hahaha just kidding. The cost of living here is crazy high just to live in a Studio apartment, which runs approximately $1200 a month. Most New Yorkers work two to three jobs just to make ends meet.
2. Crimes: The crime rate in New York City is as high as in Chicago. One must be very careful of their surroundings. Whenever you're out during the night make sure you're either with a crowd or have some way to protect yourself. Look around do not go into strange places alone and be smart about the people you have a conversation with.
3.Huge Rats: If you've ever been in New York you know that taking the subway is mostly how you get from place to place. No offense to the people who are born here the Subway it's very disgusting. It smells like dead rats everywhere and you even see them running around like they own the city. Those rats are so huge they're almost as big as a cat. So, P.S. watch out for them
4. Dress Code - Never wear heels while in the City or stare at people too long. The City is not meant to wear heels. Always wear comfortable shoes while exploring our beautiful city. You can't always be the Kim Kardashian of this place we already have enough of them.
Okay so New York obviously has its pros and cons but in all there's no place I’d rather have chosen to do all my crazy shenanigans in. You will meet some amazing people, learn some crazy slangs, and you might come across celebrities. There are so many great job opportunities to explore and live out your big dream. Take Advantage of every experience that come your way and make it a great one. This is from the gal who lives on the “forgotten borough" Staten Island.
