New Year's Resolutions You Will Not Live Up To

Let’s stay away from adding to the pile and make resolutions that will come shining through when we enter 2018.

Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365-page book and like every other year, we will all list down our new year’s resolutions. But will those resolutions be met in 2017? Or will they end up in the stack of all the resolutions that did not follow through in the past years? Let’s stay away from adding to the pile and make resolutions that will come shining through when we enter 2018. Or rather, let’s not make resolutions we will not meet. That is key! Resolutions that we can uphold!

  • The first one I want to limelight is the “Lose weight and be fit” resolution. I’ve had that one hanging out on my list since 2010. I mean, I am all for staying healthy but there is no point trying to lose weight or change your lifestyle for the sake of a NY Resolution! If you are going to change how you eat and exercise, do it because you feel like it and when you feel like it, not as a part of a resolution. Chances are, every day is going to turn out to be your cheat day!
  • Quitting smoking. Hey, this is a great idea! Smoking is expensive, it makes you smell gross and it will kill you so hell yes you should stop. But why are you waiting for a new year? Stop now. Right now. If you keep putting the “goal” off for a new year, you are most likely going to keep doing it for a couple more years.
  • Learn something new. Bruh how long has it been since you've gotten on that Duolingo app for an actual session? If you are trying to learn something new, don’t put it in as a New Year’s Resolution! Either do it right now or do it in February. Cramming everything into January will just make your will power go poof into thin air.
  • Trying to save money. Let me be blunt about this. You are going to fail. Your bank balance was a mixtape in December and oh did it drop! All those Christmas presents and New Years Eve ‘expenditures’ are bound to show up. January is depressing as it is. Stop living in the false notion that you can save a dime because trust me, you are going to splurge at some point of the month.

Pledge to do things you know you can live up to! Commit! Don’t pile up on the same stuff you have been listing for the last few years that you haven’t been doing.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
