1. Get organized.
Whether you need to organize your whole life or just a few aspects of it, make it your goal to get organized. Start by purchasing a planner such as the ones found here. With your new planner, write down important dates, deadlines and just things you need to remember. The more you plan and write down, the easier it is to be sure of what you need to do.
Sleep is essential to living a healthy, happy life. Without sleep, humans are unable to function properly and are often more irritable and not as focused. Try to get about eight hours of sleep each night. Your body and mind will thank you!
3.Set aside time for your loved ones.
Whether you go to college 15 hours away or 15 minutes away, set time aside for your family. No matter what, your parents are the ones who helped to get you where you are today. Try to dedicate some time at least once a week to FaceTime, Skype or just talk on the phone with your parents and other loved ones. This will help your family, as well as you to stay in contact and connected, even though you are not living home.
4. Search for a job or an internship.
Getting work experience is crucial for college students. The more work experience you have, the more likely future employers will take your application seriously. Try to find an internship or job related to your field of study. This will expose you to how things work in the field and you may make some great connections as well.
5. Adopt healthy habits.
With so much going on, it is easy to neglect your health. Often times, it is easier to skip the gym, eat unhealthy snacks, skip meals and not pay attention to what you are putting into your body. Try to eat at least one completely healthy meal a day, limit the amount of junk food you consume and exercise at least 30 minutes a day.
6. Give back to your community.
Many of us take things for granted such as having plenty to eat (think about all of those meal swipes that you frantically use at the end of the semester), clothes to wear, and a roof over our heads. We are fortunate enough to attend college and work toward obtaining an education
7. Save money.
As a college student, we all know it is difficult to save money. Between textbooks, going out to the city and just basic needs, money goes fast. However, try to put aside a few dollars a week and at the end of the year, you will have a nice amount of money.
8. Travel.
Traveling is so important. It helps to expose you to different cultures, traditions and ways of life. Pick a destination you would like to visit and invite friends to join. Once you set a date and book your vacation, you will have something to look forward to when you have tons of homework and tests to study for.
9. Stay on top of your school work.
A new year means a new semester, both two fresh starts. Even if you didn’t do as well as you would have liked to last semester, you have a chance to change it this semester. From the very beginning, manage your time and make sure to complete your work before going out on the weekends or hanging out with your friends. This way, you will be more relaxed when hanging out, won’t be pressured to run back to the library to finish your work and your work will be better than when its done one hour before the deadline.
And most importantly...
10. RELAX!
Carve out some time each week for you to do something you love. Try a new sport, go for a walk, read a book or just lay down and catch up on your favorite show on Netflix.
But most importantly, take a step back from all the chaos and appreciate life!
