It's around that time of year where people start thinking of new year resolutions. The catchy saying is "New Year, New Me" which I don't believe is beneficial in reaching the goals many of us have made. We are still the same person, in the same mind and body. The only part we can change and have control over are the decisions we make. That's it. We can't change who we are overnight. If we all did that we would fail and go back to the same habits we had before. Start with making little decisions that can create large outcomes. Don't worry about the decisions someone else is making, do what you think is the best for your own good. Find what works for you.

A good way to start thinking about this is to think of things that you wish to change in your daily life. Whether to get fit, give up something, change the way you start thinking of things, or whatever you feel you need to change in your life; start slowly. Make one decision a day that can benefit your tomorrow. Gradually you'll transition slowly into new habits. Why slowly? It's always better to gradually transition yourself. Many times in our daily life changes happen fast and we don't have a lot of time to adjust. It can be stressful, so if you jump into a new routine right away, and make all these changes at once, you will most likely become stressed out, which is not what new years resolutions are to intend.

Don't compare your decisions to other people. If they're making more quick advances then you, don't feel bad. Go at your own pace and as Lead Singer of the alt-rock bank Tonight Alive said "Don't worry about what other people think. Do what makes you happy." So, if you are content with your new changes or the way you are living your life and you are happy, then don't be afraid to be you. Do what makes you comfortable and don't remember to participate in self-care!

There are also those times where we feel the need to judge others, but sometimes that can reek havoc on our own well-being in the decisions we make. Just do what makes you feel good and better about yourself. That's all you have control over and have the ability to change. Keep going on your daily new decisions.

So, start thinking "New year, same me, better decisions" and be more positive and reward yourself in the decisions you make! Happy New Year! I hope this year is your best year yet and you accomplish more than you ever thought you could! Don't be afraid to talk to someone if you are having sad thoughts and feeling like you can't handle certain things, remember there are always people who are willing to help and want to help you more than ever. See you all soon.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
