In 2017, you will find that almost 95% percent of all Americans own a cell phone of some kind. Also, let's be honest a lot of those Americans really love their cell phone. The ease of access to valuable information and personal contacts makes the device one of the most important for users in the modern world, however, are they safe? For the most part, they are safe but some time ago the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone developed a habit of well... exploding. All of those people had to live with the fact that their favorite device may blow up in their hands. In addition to that many standard vape pens had users terrified of the same problem. These small but powerful electronics require a large amount of energy to properly work and that can be dangerous. Luckily for all of us, and by that, I mean other previous owners of the Galaxy Note 7 can rest easy. Scientist and engineers at the US Army Research Laboratory have been able to create a water-based electrolyte or in other words, a water-powered battery.
This water powered battery is already beginning to overtake the very common Lithium-ion batteries which have some glaring issues like heat. Which could cause some devices to explode, not really a good choice of battery considering cell phones spend a great deal of time next to peoples faces. Not only do these new water-based batteries have limited chances of exploding but they also have the potential to be better than lithium powered batteries ever could be. For starters most lithium battery's can only be recharged around one thousand times before they need to be replaced where these new water based batteries can be recharged around five thousand times. In addition to have a longer life span they are also ten times cheaper to make then standard lithium batteries. Last but no least the batteries are also better for the environment since they are water based and are easier to recycle.
While this may not be the biggest technological breakthrough of this century it is a very nice quality of life change. Stronger more powerful batteries that are way easier to produce. Batteries that also do not pollute our environment even more than it already is and are actually cheaper than the existing counterpart. Of course best of all no more exploding cell phones or vape pens. You can expect this to be an industry standard for most gadget and phone providers in the coming future. Also a quick financial tip, when this technology is nearing market ready potential buy stock in the company who owns the patent, this will be a game changer!
