School's out! Winter break means catching up on sleep, spending time with loved ones, being thankful for life's blessings....and binge-watching shows on Netflix. Finding quality new shows can be a challenge sometimes, especially when searching through the endless abyss that is Netflix. On the other hand, googling for "new shows on Netflix" usually brings up a long list of mediocre television shows with terrible reviews, or old shows you've already watched three times over. To get a head start on this holiday's binge-watching marathon, ten newly released shows on Netflix have been hand-picked for your viewing pleasure! Read on to find your next Netflix obsession.

1. "Master of None"

For any fan of Aziz Ansari, or comedy in general, this is a must-binge-watch show! In this popular new sitcom, Ansari's character, Dev Shah, struggles to make decisions in his personal and professional life.

2. "Jessica Jones"

Another Netflix original series based in New York, "Jessica Jones" steers us away from Anzari's lighter comedy and towards the darker, crime-filled world of Marvel. After a tragedy ends her days as a superhero, Jessica Jones opens her own detective agency. Using her skills as a private eye, Jones works to find her tormentor before he harms another citizen of Hell's Kitchen.

3. "Cristela"

This is a fun show for anyone who can sympathize with wanting to following your dreams, even when family may not support you. While attempting to achieve the American dream, Cristela is hindered by her traditional Mexican-American family, who believe her goals are too lofty. While she struggles to bring together her traditional roots and her modern ambitions, the journey is full of joy and laughter.

4. "Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce"

After making her way as an author of self-help books and a guru to people with family troubles, Abby McCarthy's career screeched to a halt when the world found out she had separated from her husband. "Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce" follows McCarthy as she works to salvage her career and find her way in the world as a single woman.

5. "Gotham"

Any fan of Batman has to binge-watch "Gotham," if they haven't already! A prequel series, "Gotham" reveals how the heroes (and villains) of Gotham City got their start.

6. "Narcos"

The third Netflix original series on this list, "Narcos" is a gritty drama following the rise and fall of Colombian kingpin Pablo Escobar and the DEA agents hunting him. Told from the points of view of Escobar himself, as well as DEA Agent Steve Murphy, "Narcos" gives insight into opposing sides of what would later become a full-out war.

7. "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"

"Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" is another new, and popular, Netflix original series. A lighthearted comedy about a girl who is living life outside of a cult for the first time in 15 years, Kimmy Schmidt is a quirky, lovable character you just can't resist.

8. "Phineas and Ferb"

Although the much-loved show, "Phineas and Ferb," is not new to our television sets, it is new to Netflix! The show follows the incredible adventures and genius of Phineas and his step-brother, Ferb, as the two determine to make every day of summer fun. Although their older sister attempts daily to reveal the brothers' high-jinks to their parents, she is thwarted time and time again!

9. "NCIS"

Another show which we've dedicatedly watched for years, but is new to Netflix, "NCIS" follows a team of special agents as they solve homicides of naval officers. "NCIS" was specially made for any fan of crime-solving shows!

10. "Madam Secretary"

Newly appointed Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord struggles to balance her responsibilities in politics as well as family. The show follows foreign conflicts, gives insight into international affairs, and reveals a behind the scenes look at the duties of the Secretary of State.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
