A New Perspective From 37,000 Feet Up

It's time to we stop idling on the runway. Let's find a new view!

I'm sitting here at 37,000 feet with a view of planet Earth that I don't too often see. Cars smaller than ants, people not even visible and whole states and land masses like tiny blips. There is something about being strapped in a metal tube, high up in the atmosphere with not but air metal around me. In this moment, it has brought me to this thought. At this view of everything the creation that we have awes me. This world is so incredibly delicate and so wonderfully beautiful.

However, we seem to have lost our connection to this gift. Our appreciation for every day has been depleted and our love for one another is hanging on a dangerous balance. Especially from what I see in light of many recent events we all seem to have fallen into tearing each other apart instead of pulling together as one.

I'm not here to blame a person or a news event, I'm not even here to tell you what to feel or believe. All I want is for each of us to stop and take a plane ride of our own. Now physically you may not be able to, but I'm talking in your mind. For one second why don't you put aside everything dividing us and take all we have and see how blessed we are as people. No matter your view, your belief, or your opinion, let's be people.

Now back to this flight; I actually witness the human side of everyone when in flight. Everyone is together for a period of time with one common goal, get to the location that is set. But along the journey, everyone is talking and meeting new people and sharing stories with strangers. It's like when we isolate our differences and create a scenario of peace we realize our true, understanding selves.

This may seem crazy or maybe a weird comparison but I can at least say this world is a mess and that can change. An airplane flight won't solve it but try going on a journey to understand and listen instead of letting disagreement and hate spew is a great start. It’s time to soar above the confusion and fly into love.

I love hearing all views and different perspectives but we each must not forget that we can all be different but that's never an excuse to be hurtful physically or verbally. We are different but equal. So grab the next flight out and climb up and see all this. Look for the adventure and find the wonderful side of the world in which we live. A world that needs to see more from 37,000 feet. We for sure need to spend less time sitting on the tarmac hoping the plane will move when we are the pilot.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
