There are so many days where I feel like I’m falling behind. Falling behind on love, specifically. I remind myself that I am so young and have my whole life ahead of me filled with luminescent memories that will shine in my mind when I reminisce. However, I still want to get married someday. Maybe not until five or so years from now, but I know the wait will be worth it because I know the right man is out there for me.
But to all the girls who feel like they have to get married at such a young age, please don't settle.
Don’t settle for less than you deserve.
Don’t settle on a text message, Snapchat, or call from a guy who leaves you hanging. A guy who wouldn’t drop everything and spend a whole minute with you if it means that’s the only time he’ll see you during the day.
Don’t settle for a guy that doesn’t miss you after you leave or a guy who doesn’t recognize what he’s looking at when he looks into your eyes.
Don’t settle for a guy who doesn’t push you towards your goals, support your dreams, want to be a better person, or to love you completely because of the way you are.
Don’t settle for a guy who thinks you’re like a temporary tattoo -- cool for a little while but knows it’ll wear off in the end.
You don’t deserve any of that because no matter how great you may think that guy could be on the surface and during that period of time, in hindsight you’ll realize you deserve much more than that. Someday you'll find that man who would do absolutely anything. He would give you the world if he could.
You deserve a life full of happiness with a man by your side who can’t help but smile knowing that you are his and he is yours.
You deserve to be with a man who respects you and your morals. Who protects you, keeps you safe, and wouldn’t let anything bad happen to you.
You deserve to be that man’s guardian angel. To be with a man that thinks you saved him and believes you are the little glimpse of heaven God sent down just for him.
You deserve to be the reason why a man glows when he’s around you because he's proud to be out with you holding your hand and showing you off.
You deserve to be a man’s permanent woman. To be the reason he can’t imagine his life without you, and he’d do whatever it took to keep you in it. To not give up so easily and fight those battles knowing it would be you two in the end.
So wait for that man. Wait for him until you know he’s the right one. Wait for him until he leaves you breathless just by looking at him. Please be patient.
But don’t think that you get off that easily either. That man deserves all of that and the world too, and it's your job to reciprocate it just as well.
