If there is one thing I have learned in the last few years, it is that growing up is anything but easy. One of the most important lessons I have learned, however, is that perspective is everything. Focusing on the less positive aspects of life is a good way to make yourself miserable, and quick. Eliminating negativity is one of the most important things you can do to improve your lifestyle. Change your mindset, right? It goes much further than that.
1. Choose your friends wisely.
They say the five closest friends you have are the ones you are most like. Who are you friends? Where are they going in life? What are their goals? These are people who influence you, who's opinions you value and trust. Make sure your friends are not only like-minded, but honestly want what is best for you and your future. It's okay to cut relationships that are toxic to you. Set boundaries if you need to. Do not allow your "friends" to use you, or only be there when it is convenient to them.
2. Change your habits.
You only get one body, so make sure you take care of it. Go to the gym.Take a walk. Take a nap. Meditate. Go hiking. Clean the house. Cut out foods high in sugar and fat. You don't have to go on a major diet, but noticing what foods make you sluggish and which ones give you energy are important.
3. Don't allow others to have control over your emotions.
Understand that you are in charge of yourself -- your actions, your words, the company you keep, all of it. Choose what upsets you. Will it matter a week from now? A month from now? Remember, a queen does not leave her throne to address a peasant throwing stones.
4.Stop caring about other people's opinion.
Life is short. Live it fully. Waiting for others to accept you or always trying to please others will only cause you disappointment. Others will always pick apart your actions. If you dye your hair black, they like it better blonde. Somebody once told me, "If you're feeling like you can't do anything right, if you can't make anyone happy, go look at the comments section on Beyoncé's Instagram. She is doing everything right, one of the most powerful people in the world today, and people still hate on her."
And finally, your mindset is important. It stems from other aspects of your life, so it is important to keep your life positive, but also your perspective of things. Without rain, we cannot appreciate the sun, and without the dark, we cannot appreciate the stars. Focusing completely on the negative, however, is a terrible way to stay unhappy.
