With many contract extensions coming around making the the All-Star team is in every players mind. But only 12 players in each conference get the nod, so without further-ado lets break down who should get the vote.
Also quick disclaimer: this is my opinion, but I strongly believe that my opinion is true and will defend it with all my heart.
Let us start with the West:
The locks: James Harden(G), Luka Doncic(G), AD(F), Lebron James(F)
There seems to be no debate on 4/5 of the starters for the west, and it makes sense. Because all 4 of these guys are top 5 candidates for MVP.
However the last starting forward spot is the biggest one in question: do you give it to Jokic or do you give it Kawahi. Regardless of whichever one you pick the other is going to be a reserve. And because of The Klaw's sheer dominance in the games he has played I'm giving him the edge here for the starting spot.
Now for the reserves in the west:
Jokic is already one reserve (out of 7). So we get to pick 6 more. I'm going with: Mitchell, PG, Devin Booker, Dame, Rudy Gobert, CP3.
Alright I can already hear it, "CP3 IS WASHEDDD". Let's calm down here. I know for most this spot is going KAT or Westbrook or even Brandon Ingram. Even though he is only averaging 17 and 6, there are 2 other members of his team averaging similar numbers. You also have to factor in the amount of clutch 4th quarters he has had, this is not a fluke any more. CP3 has somehow made OKC a very solid team. The only real issue is that SGA(on his team) is averaging nearly 20, I'm giving the edge to CP3 because of the clutch plays and the assist numbers but I wouldn't be upset if SGA got it. Either way this will probably be CP3's last all star appearance.
As for KAT, he is not even close to getting this team into a playoff spot, so throw him out of the question. The west is too competitive for him to be an all star even though he is averaging 27. The Thunder are not a fluke, stop sleeping on them.
Now to the East:
The locks: Kemba(G), Giannis(F), Joel(F), Siakam(F)
You don't watch basketball if these 4 are not in your starting 5. The issue is once again the remaining guard spot. Does it go to Trae or Beal. I give this to Beal for the same reason KAT was left out of the West, the Hawks are literal trash. Just go look at their record.
The east reserves:
Okay so you have to give Trae Young a nod even though they aren't winning any games for 2 main reasons. 1- he actually has negative people helping him, 2- The east just isn't that competitive at the bottom seeds. Both of these combined lead me to make Trae the first reserve.
The rest of my reserves are: Brown, Butler, Bam, Khris, Sabonis, Simmons.
I gave the edge to Brown over JT because of efficiency, and I didn't make both of them an all star because I couldn't justify having 3 all stars on one team. The Celtics just aren't dominant enough for me to justify that. So I guess by default I ended up giving it Ben Simmons (reluctantly).
Those are my All-Star votes, I can't wait to see who cries this year because they got snubbed.
