20 Things All Oldest Siblings Know To Be True

What do DJ Tanner, Kourtney Kardashian, and Abraham Lincoln all have in common? They all know the struggles and advantages of being the oldest sibling in their family. Did you know that 24 out the 44 US presidents are first borns? Same goes for all of the actors who have ever played James Bond. Not all of us are presidents, James Bond or celebrities but if you are the oldest sibling of your clan, here are twenty things you know to be true.

1. Your parents documented more of your time as a baby than the rest of your siblings (i.e. baby books and home videos).

2. Even though you love your siblings, when they were born you disliked that you no longer were the only center of your parents' attention.

3. As your younger siblings grew older, you began to realize the power you have over them.

4. You could convince them to do your chores for you.

5. Or you could make them believe the wildest lies and stories.

6. You always had first dibs (including lifetime shotgun privileges).

7. You found joy in embarrassing your younger siblings in public and in front of their friends.

8. Whenever your parents left you all at home together, you were always the one left "in charge."

9.You were probably okay assuming this position because you loved the sense of responsibility.

10. As a result of always being in charge, you are now a control freak and super comfortable with leadership positions.

11. You had the best babysitting skills in all of the neighborhood.

12. You never had to deal with hand-me-downs.

13. You parents have always placed higher expectations on you than they did on your younger siblings.

14. They were also more strict on you. For example, you weren't allowed to see PG-13 movies until you were exactly 13.

15. You were expected to be a good example for your siblings.

16. As well as, being their personal tutor and all around source for SAT and college application information.

17. Your younger siblings always wanted to be friends with your friends.

18. And they went through phases where they copied everything you did and wore.

19. It's always weird when your younger siblings hit milestones like graduating high school because you realize they aren't so little anymore.

20. Even though being the oldest sibling is a lot of responsibility, you know your younger sibling will always be your built-in best friends for life.

What do you think? What are the pros and cons of being the oldest sibling? What other things do all us first borns know to be true?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
