To My Best Friend From Home

You are my other half.

To My Best Friend From Home
Meredith Anne McLaurin

I have many friends from our hometown, but I was pushed to write to you AC Butt Face. We have a friendship that no matter how I’m feeling or how far we are from each other you always seem to make me smile and be able to get me talking about whatever is wrong.

We have a bond that many don’t understand or want to understand. No…..we’re not just bonded through our rad dance moves and our weird music taste. I love telling how it all started. When my mom gave your parents heck about being pregnant with you and didn’t know she was pregnant with me at the same time. That is why we are six days apart ;)

Tbh never told you I was born two weeks early so technically you are supposed to be older than me…..but you’re not. Sorry not sorry. Hehehehehehehehe.

But honestly, glad our parents had us when they did even though it was funny timing for them it was perfect for us and I think God knew that. I remember playing Polly Pockets with you and graduating from being a Koalaty Kid with you. We did take on life a number of years apart, like 4. When we started catching up again junior year it was like reconnecting with a family member and we haven’t separated since. We dealt with breakups together and just life disappointments in general.

This past summer my mom was diagnosed with cancer, you never left my side. Traveling with me to Birmingham to see her and just coming over or driving around town with me so I wasn’t alone. You have always been there for me in situations even if you didn’t understand them yourself, but mid situation with my mom you were forced to begin to understand how i felt. Our moms were both sick at the same time and I wish I could take them away from them so badly. I am honored and blessed though that God gave us each other so we could have someone who understood.

The top three reasons you are my best friend, though?

1. Laughter

No, I don’t just mean because you have that insane laugh that we all know about…….#THSBestLaugh2k16. But it’s the fact you always are able to make me laugh even if I am crying my eyes out or I am just ranting about a boy you always know what to say...or you don’t know what to say and you say something weird and we start laughing

2. Love

You have never made me feel less than important. You have always made me feel like I was enough even if I didn’t feel it. You always knew how to comfort me or repair the pain someone caused. It’s also the relationship we have with one another’s families. You may be my mom’s favorite child and I know I am your sister’s favorite sister ;). Honestly though, when I miss my family I always know I have you too.

3. Dance Parties

Okay, so this one is a little silly, but if you have never been there for one of our dance parties you don’t understand. Even if it’s angry screaming music or 90s pop we always find a reason to dance it out. Mad? Paramore. Happy? Spice Girls. Confused? Mr. Brightside. No one can do it like us...sry ppl smh.

We have done so much and I can’t wait to see what all we do from here on out. I can’t wait to be an amazing aunt/Godmother to your kids, an annoying sister to your husband, an amazing Maid of Honor/bridesmaid at your wedding, so much for us to do and I can’t wait.

You are going to be an amazing mother, wife and everything else in between. You have so much to do and so much to learn. I can’t wait to be by your side for it. AC Butt Face, Anna Claire, Ac, Hmama, thank you for being the friend that I hope my daughters are able to have.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
