My Week Of Being Sick

Hi, my name is James and I hate being sick

My Week Of Being Sick
Ben Cable

It's the beginning of my last semester as a Huntington University student. Yay! Guess What? I get sick; BOO! And to top it off, I have a lot riding on me this semester. I am getting over a break-up, I am preparing for graduation, my senior recital, passing my classes and being able to juggle everything. This past week, I couldn't do anything. During the day, I felt mentally fatigued and my body would shut down during the middle of the day.

On Monday's, my class schedule is long. I wake up around 8 and get breakfast just before my 9'o'clock class and get to enjoy a lecture about all the models of abnormality in Abnormal Psychology. Then, I got to run across campus to the MCA and embark on a tour of the baton in Advanced Conducting. After those two classes, I felt like I already needed a nap, but I pressed on as the day went along. I barely had time to eat lunch and then I went to my Prob and Stats class only to find out that my Microsoft Office program was discontinued and I had to sit in IT Services for over an hour for the new software. But, I have to give them credit. They did a great job and I love the services that have been provided to me. Choir was ok but I can feel my voice getting tighter with each passing minute. My first organ lesson was good when we finally got let in to the church. It's a little inconvenient when you have to take organ lessons off campus and it is always hard to find a time to practice. The rest of the day I tutored and when I got home I passed out.

I slept about twelve hours that night and when I woke up Tuesday morning, my head was aching and my nose was stuffed and I was very weak.

I managed to make it to chapel but during my piano lesson, it was hard to concentrate. I had my afternoon classes and I had to leave band early for a tutoring session and my band teacher was very unhappy. I had promised him that I would work out my schedule.

Wednesday was my worst day. The weather was so cold this week and although it was sunny, between the weather and everybody getting sick around me, it was a lethal combination. I barely made it to my 9am and after walking back from the science hall, I went back to my dorm and went to bed. I ended up missing my 2pm and pushing myself to go to choir and music lab. I still had to tutor that afternoon and I got through it and that night, I went to Walmart and bought me a thermometer and NyQuil. I took my temperature and it was a little under normal and I took the pills and drifted off to sleep. I ended up sleeping 11 hours that night and getting up the next morning just in time for chapel.

Thursday was very difficult. I managed to make it to all my classes but I was very weak and I always felt like I needed to go back to sleep. I ended up not going to league and just laying low for the rest of the night. I took my NyQuil and went to bed.

Friday, I took my temperature when I got up and I was running a fever of 99 but I still went to class and after that class, I didn't have anything to do all day. I had called in sick to work and I just laid low the entire day and got work done and when I woke up this morning, I felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Being sick this past week has felt like the plague. It stinks when you're sick because you feel helpless and that you can't do anything. But, you still have stuff to get done because, in college, there are so many deadlines.

This has been my week.

I hope your week was better than mine. Tomorrow starts a fresh new week and temperatures are supposed to warm up. Thank you

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
