My Top Picks: Tearjerker Movies
Sneaker News

Don't you ever just want to curl up in your bed and have a good cry? Well, these movies are guaranteed to do the job for you. These movies touch on subjects such as death, loss of loved ones and even darker subjects such as cancer. They are definitely some of my top picks, and I've cried almost every single time I've watched them. Also, SPOILER ALERTS.

10. Titanic

The movie with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet is sure to bring a tear to your eye toward the very end. Throughout the movie, you're following the love story of Jack Dawson (DiCaprio) and Rose DeWitt Bukater (Winslet) as they fight through the strain of being from two different classes of society. Rose is engaged to be married to Caledon Hockley (Billy Zane) when she meets Jack and falls in love. The story follows the actual tale of the ill-fated maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic in April of 1912 as well as adding the created tale of Jack and Rose's love. It's an absolutely beautiful, yet tragic, tale of love and death.

9. Steel Magnolias

This movie is magnificent. It has an all-star cast, and it follows the tale of Shelby Eatenton (Julia Roberts) from her wedding day all the way through her death, as well as what happens to her family after her death. The movie takes place in Louisiana and stars Dolly Parton, Sally Field, Dylan McDermott and many, many others.

8. Charlie St. Cloud

Charlie St. Cloud is a story of losing a younger brother in a car crash that the older brother survives. Being an older sibling myself, I can't imagine what kind of pain and grief I would be in if that were to happen to me. I pray that it never does. Charlie St. Cloud (Zac Efron) has to deal with surviving an accident that killed his little brother Sam (Charlie Tahan) and keep his promise to his little brother that he refuses to break: to play catch with him every single day; however, things change for Charlie when he reconnects with an old high school acquaintance named Tess (Amanda Crew) and falls in love with her. When Tess goes missing at sea, Charlie has to choose: does he keep the promise to his little brother or does he go save the girl he loves?

7. Marley & Me

This movie absolutely killed me. I have a very strong attachment to animals and this movie was no exception. I love dogs so much and I thought that this would be a pretty happy movie. Never trust a movie that has a dog as the titular character. It will destroy you.

6. A Walk To Remember

Obviously, this is a Nicholas Sparks movie. And do Nicholas Sparks movies ever come without tragedy of some kind? Not a chance. This movie takes place in Beaufort, North Carolina and follows the tale of Landon Carter (Shane West) and Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore). Landon and Jamie end up spending a lot of time together due to an after-school punishment for a prank gone wrong on Landon's part, and Landon and Jamie end up falling completely in love with each other. The catch: Jamie is sick. And her sickness is what ends up testing Landon's love for her. This is also my sister's favorite movie.

5. Courageous

This movie is about law enforcement officers having to deal with the challenge of fatherhood, more so what it means to truly be a father to their children. The realization that they needed a change came in the form of the daughter of one of the officers being killed in a tragic accident and the tragedy tests even their faith in God. The movie was created by Sherwood Pictures, the moviemaking ministry of Sherwood Church in Albany, Georgia and stars many of the church members. This movie had me alternating between laughing and crying throughout the entirety of it, and viewers will certainly see what I mean when you watch it.

4. P.S. I Love You

This movie and the book had my heart breaking from the start. The story follows Holly Kennedy (Hilary Swank) in her attempt to get her life started again after the untimely death of her beloved husband Gerry (Gerard Butler). Gerry leaves these letters for her that give her hints of different things she should do in order to get her life back on track and move on from him. This movie is both funny and heartwrenching, and I guarantee you will love it.

3. The Fault In Our Stars

This popular John Green story follows Hazel Grace (Shailene Woodley) and Augustus Waters (Ansel Elgort) in their efforts to keep their lives going one day at a time and living it to the fullest, despite the fact that both of them have been diagnosed with different types of terminal cancers. The story is both heartwarming and tragic at the same time, and you will definitely be left in tears in the end.

2. The Notebook

Whenever one hears of The Notebook, you can't even remotely think that this story won't end tragically somehow. Based on the novel by (you guessed it) Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook follows the love story of Allie Hamilton (Rachel McAdams) and Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling). Noah and Allie spark a romance, but Allie's parents do not approve (remind you of something?) and so Allie and Noah break off their romance. Allie goes away and Noah writes her letters, but she never gets them. Noah enlists in the army during World War II and Allie works as an army nurse. Allie meets her fiance, Lon Hammond, while working as a nurse, but when she returns home, she runs back into Noah. Allie ends up divided between the two. Also, the storyline is a story within a story because there are several parts within the movie where the story is being told to an elderly Allie by an elderly man named Duke, whose children are visiting him in the nursing home in which they both reside. The ending had me bawling for a good twenty minutes after the movie ended.

1. The Last Song

One of the many Nicholas Sparks movies on this list, and it's definitely the most tragic to me. The story follows Ronnie (Miley Cyrus) and her little brother, Jonah, as they move down to Tybee Island, Georgia to live with their dad for the summer. Ronnie resents her father for her parents' divorce and does everything she can think of to rebel against him during the summer. After meeting a handsome guy named Will (Liam Hemsworth), she rekindles her love for music, which brings her closer to her father throughout the rest of the movie. The ending is absolutely tragic because the rest of the movie is so heartwarming and fulfilling that you don't even see it coming until it's right upon you. It's definitely my top tearjerker movie.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
