A Roundup Of The Top '80s Movies

Yes, I love '80s movies. Molly Ringwald is my GIRL (bless her soul). But don't go calling me the basic teenage white girl hipster because the is SO not the case. I am a movie fanatic and have no discrimination to any kinds of movies: Rom-Coms, Action, Horror (on occasion), Cartoon, Documentaries, you name it, and I'll watch it. But if I had to pick any select group of movies that remain my favorites it would have to be '80s movies.

1. Dirty Dancing.

Oh lordy, where to begin with this movie, I can't choose whether I should talk about my love for Patrick Swayze *que heart eye emoji* or to talk about the music and outfits in the movie. But all in all this movie is my go to. It is the Rhianna to my Drake, the Biggie to my Tupac, the Mickey to my Mouse (I think you're getting my point). This movie isn't just all about Patrick Swayze teaching Jennifer Grey how to dance and them inevitably falling in love and wrapping the movie in a fabulous dance movie that has yet to be topped. It's about finding yourself, and what you have a passion for and standing by it. This movie is by far the top in my list of 80's movies.

2. Sixteen Candles.

I actually had never seen this movie until I was 15 almost turning 16 and let me just say, Jake Ryan, feel free to holla at your girl because I'm still waiting at the church for you boo (those whom have seen the movie will understand that gibberish). But this movie is definitely one that is meant to be one saved for a girl's right of passage and turning 15 to 16. Now, I definitely never desired to have my birthday forgotten about and have my sister's wedding take the upstaging for that, but I definitely did hope for the Jake Ryan/Samantha Baker type love. It's just such a good movie that brings so much humor into the dramatic mindset of the average teenage girl. And not to mention, Long Duck Dong *gong sound* like who didn't love his signature first line, "What's happening hot stuff?" Literally me to every guy I see (just kidding).

3. Top Gun.

I am STILL crying for Goose, like to this day. This movie is the epitome of the saying "I love a man in uniform". Only my choice of uniform is that of the Tom Cruise as a pilot. This movie is such an amazing Action/Rom-Com that I literally debated forcing my roommate to be Maverick and Goose with me. This movie was just such an amazing pull at your heart strings and teaching you to overcome impossible obstacles.

4. My last pick (only because I don't want to keep you reading for the rest of your life) is Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

This movie is literally my senior year experience just in the '80s and from a guy's perspective. I cannot begin to even add up the amount of days that I skipped my senior year to have fun and live my life before going off to college. Keep in mind most of my skip days were spent at the beach and not running around the city of Chicago evading my principal. But this movie, like Sixteen Candles, should be a mandatory showing in schools for the rising seniors. It teaches you to not worry about the material things and to take time to live your life and enjoy it. "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop look around once in awhile, you could miss it."

So go my loyal readers, watch all the '80s movies till your hearts explode; I know that's what I'll be doing.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
