So, as we all know, this past Tuesday (November 8th), was the day that we as Americans, as well as everyone else in the world that keeps up with the happenings here in the good ole’ US of A, was the day that we would choose who would be the next president of the United States. And, as it has been decided whether some like it or not, Donald Trump will be the next Commander in Chief. Since the election has ended, on my social media accounts, I have seen a ridiculous amount of negativity, complaining, and sore losers, as well as too many gloating winners, and I think that that kind of nonsense really needs to stop.
I have heard that if a person chooses to compete in something, whether it be in an election or a ball game, they must also choose to accept the results of that particular competition, whether it turns out in their favor or not. I don’t keep up with politics much, but I do believe this principle to be true, and from what I have noticed from after the election, both Trump and Clinton seem to be taking things well-it’s the Americans from both parties, I think, that needs lessons in etiquette and fair sportsmanship. I am not going to announce who it was that I voted for, because, to be frank, that is my business and my business only. But I will say that even if a candidate that wasn’t the one that I would personally pick for the job got elected into office, I would still give them my support. Being President of an entire country is a huge job with a lot of pressure, and the last thing that is needed with that occupation is people who refuse to have a good attitude and patience. So, I think that we as Americans need to be sure that we give this president our support-not necessarily because we love the man, but because it’s a patriotic, ethical, and flat out nice thing to do.
A man on Facebook hit the nail on the head when he said in a previous status that “If you vote for Hillary Clinton you are not stupid. If you vote for Donald Trump you are not stupid. You are just voting for the person that you believe will be the best choice for our country. Don't be so egomaniacal and self important to think that if someone thinks differently than you they are an idiot. Diversity of opinion is what makes our country great. No matter who wins the sun will still come up tomorrow. Be kind. Do what is right. Love your neighbor.” Even though people may have different views than us on how the country should be lead, we have no reason to show disrespect. EVER.
My intentions for this article was not to start a political cyber-war with people, I only wanted to stress the importance of always being kind and respectful towards everyone, no matter how different their views may be from yours, and to show love, support and respect to our president, whether we agree with everything he does or not. He took on this job with the solid goal of helping the American people the best that he knows, just like any of the other candidates would, and I think that we should give both him and Hillary our deepest of respects.
