I remember the night before I left to go back to college. My friends and I took a ride around town and echoes of “I do not want to leave you guys” muttered throughout the car. I wanted this car ride to last forever.
I think the last goodbye was the hardest- that final hug, that final exchange of eye contact, that final sense of comfort. There is nothing like high school friends, for they helped define who you really are; they defined your childhood.
After being away from home for the first time, we really begin to appreciate many aspects of high school life that we originally took for granted; this could range from parental guidance to friendships to even a clean shower.
The first night of Thanksgiving break, I remember spending time with all of my friends after three months of not seeing one another. Surrounding me were varying personalities, all who possessed the ability to put a smile on my face that could not be broken.
Even though I was only home for one week, I was able to truly see what relationships held crucial qualities- strength, care, desire. These are key components when determining who your friends really are and who was just there throughout high school for the perks of being your friend. Perhaps you learned this too, and maybe it is disappointing. This is a part of life- we move on with those who want to see us succeed, who want to see us happy, and who want to be there when we earn our college diploma.
Do not get discouraged, for this allows us to spend time with the ones who are true friend, learn from this experience. Cherish the ones who care, who display loyalty, honesty, and happiness.
Good luck to the ones who were a part of my life just for high school; I hope your journey leads you to success.
See you soon.
