An Open Letter To My High School Best Friend

Dear High School Best Friend,

First and foremost, thank you. Thank you for letting us pick up right where we left off. Thank you for being a phone call away when I need a break from everything going on at school. Thank you for being my confidante. Thank you for knowing me just as well as I know myself.

For people I've met only in the last four years, it's incredibly surprising how hard it is to be away from you. I know we only said goodbye four months ago, but it feels like so much longer.

I'm so happy to hear about how happy you are at school, and it's so reassuring to know that you are just as happy for me. I love to hear about your new friends.

If we can't be having these experiences together, I'm glad you are having them with such great people. Most of all, I'm so glad to hear that you have such a great support system there with you for the times that I can't be on the phone with you.

As the past semester drew to a close, I found myself counting down the days, hours, and minutes until we could be reunited and make more goofy memories. The first time I got to see you really seemed like a reward for all the work I put in the past three months. It's so hard to not have amazing times together, and this break was certainly full of good times.

I can't believe it's already time to say goodbye again. What's more, I can't believe it's just as hard to say goodbye a second time. Don't get me wrong, I'm incredibly excited to go back to school and see all my friends. I just wish I could bring you with me.

And so now whatever promises we make and break to talk to each other once a week or visit through out the semester, just know that no matter what I'm preoccupied with in my own life at school, I will always be here for you. If I can't pick up the phone, I'll always return your call. If I can't come see you, I'll snapchat and FaceTime you as if I was there.

Always know that you are a priority to me, and never doubt that I would do anything for you, no questions asked.

Love anytime and always,

Your High School Best Friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
