My Story: Why Did I Choose to Become a Nurse?
Nursing programs

Out of all the career paths, one career spoke to me: a registered nurse. Ever since I was in middle school I loved watching people around me fall head over heels in love with nursing. I have grown up with a select few role models who kind of led to my decision in pursuing nursing. However, before I ever decided on nursing, I had debated between my heart and mind for many months on whether nursing was right for me or if I would even have the passion for nursing.

The answer is yes; I have come to find out that nursing is right fit the for me, because when I looked at all my options of different careers nursing was always the career I came back to. Although I know nursing is going to a hard career path, I can visually picture myself in the health care field. The reason nursing is hard is not because it is challenging, but the fact that I will be saving lives. All the challenging, hard work and determination that nursing school will bring will all be worth it in the end and I cannot wait to embark on this amazing journey!

First of al,l I chose nursing because of my Aunt April's inspiration for nursing. She has inspired me to look beyond the horrible things you hear about nursing and find what brings me joy within the health care field. She has told me time after time, “If you do not absolutely love nursing then you will never make it through nursing school.” And it is true, nursing school is not meant for everyone and it takes a special type of person to do the things nurses do on a day-to-day basis. But the truth is I cannot picture myself anywhere else, I love helping people, the thrill of volunteering at a hospital, everything about the body and how it functions, and the fast pace atmosphere.

I guess you can say I was born to be a nurse and I have fallen in love with nursing already. Every time I talk to my aunt about nursing or hear her stories from her previous work shift, I love seeing how passionate she is about going to her job everyday. Yes, there are going to be days where she hates her job and days where she loves her job, however, the days she loves makes her job rewarding. I want to fill that same rush of excitement in my future as a nurse and I cannot wait for my aunt to guide me every step of the way.

Nursing is intriguing, constantly changing and inspiring. Nursing, for sure, is never a dull moment. I can have the opportunity to pick from a wide range of specialties, but the one specialty that has always been in my heart is to become a pediatric nurse. I love being around children, especially my younger cousins. I love that I can still have fun and be a kid at the same time while being a pediatric nurse. I love that amidst all the horrible treatments, medications, and examinations I still have time to read bedtime stories and talk about all the Disney movies. However, at the same time I love that there is a variety of jobs in the nursing to pick from; I can see the thrill of a baby being born or comfort an ill adult. It is very fulfilling to know that no matter what specialty or department I choose to work in, my job as a nurse will be making a difference in this world. Making a difference in this world is all that counts and is one of the major reasons why I choose to become a nurse. I cannot wait to venture out in the interesting world of healthcare.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
