In the wise words of the infamous Carrie Bradshaw, “Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with.” So, is it really possible? Could our best friends be our other halves? I never thought about this quote until I became obsessed with Sex and the City. However, maybe it is just more than a quote. So I began to think to myself, is it truly possible to love your friends enough that you can call them your soulmates?
Here's what I think,
This weekend, I was able to attend The 1975 concert, now if anyone knows me, they know I have a obsessive love for Matty Healy and anything 1975. My best friend, pictured above, came with me. She has been my best friend for about five years now, but who is counting? We have had countless adventures, long random drives, heart to hearts and the list can go on. I mean come on, we snuck into a two-day festival together on our last weekend before separating due to college. That is another story you probably shouldn't know...
Now imagine this...
You are crazy for this one band. Your best friend has the same music taste as you so she's just as excited. You have been anxiously waiting for the opening acts to wrap up so your true loves (we know who mine are) can come on stage. The lights are dimming. The bass is getting higher and higher. Fans are screaming and instantly you hear the sound of the guitars and drums just going at it. You can just feel the music pounding through your chest as you are front row with your best friend. What can get better?
This is what happened to me. I looked over and I don't think I have ever seen us happier. We were content and it is like every ounce of stress or pain has ever left our life. It was just me, her, the music, and some cheap wine.
SO to answer the question,
Can your best friend be your soulmate? Are you right, Carrie?
The answer is yes. I am a firm believer that your best friend can be your soulmate. Your best friend is the one that picks up every piece of your broken heart at times, she's the one that helps you in any crisis, who will eat pints on pints of ice cream with you when you're sad, and who will cheer with you when you are at your happiest.
But, can you have more than one soulmate?
I think it is possible to have more than one soulmate. My family, my friends, my sisters- they're all my soulmates. They are people I couldn't live without. Recently, someone walked into my life with such a bright and loving soul. This person has made me really see that people only want to support me, give me the best, and see me happy. That is rare and for that, I am beyond lucky to have a good set of people to call "my soul mates." This year, I have fell in love with my life- so completely and utterly in love- and I know it is cause of the people who are in it. I have lost people I thought I could not live without, and it turns out, I am living better now that they are out of my life. Old doors closed, for new ones to open.
So, to my best friend, my soulmate, my person, my partner in crime,
Thank you. Thank you for creating memories with me that I will never forget, some memories I will repeat over and over to anyone who wants to hear, and others... well we will have good stories for our grandkids one day.
Thank you for the nights that I can't remember. Some better than others, but always worth it.
Thank you for the nights where you have third wheeled on dates. Oh and a big thanks to helping break the ice on the first dates and telling me he is McDreamy worthy.
Thank you for being by my side even when we are a thousand miles away at school.
Thank you for answering my phone calls, even at 2am or 2pm you are there.
Thank you for helping me see the good (and the bad) in others, for that I know you are looking out for my well being and my happiness.
Thank you for hearing all my rants, whether it is a bunch of screenshots sent to you and I am freaking out on what to say to rants because I don't know what to eat
Lastly, thank you for being you. Never change. I hope one day you will find a boy that loves you at least half as much as I do. You deserve the world and more and I hope when you find someone who values your happiness, they will see what I see.
With love,
your person
