my sister, my friend

she has never once judged me

"I was thinking just today about how we used to play Barbie dolls and makeup.. Tea parties, dress up. I remember how we'd fight, then make up and laugh all night. Wish we were kids again. My sister, my friend."

Whether you're still living under the same roof, or one's in college, or married and living their own life, your sister is always your sister.

A more important concept to grasp is that as you grow older your role as a sister will change. You will go from standard sister status to a friend and confidant. (Hopefully), the arguing stage will phase out and you will become someone to lean on when times get tough or when you just need a friend.

During my first few semesters of college, I realized this to be true of my own sister’s relationship and me. I realized that we no longer argued about who got shotgun, who cleaned the toilets, or who got the last bite of peach cobbler. Instead, we talked about life, love, and everything in between. I then realized that my best friend had always been right in front of me.

My sister has no doubt always had my best interest at heart and looked after me like I was her real life baby doll. (She’s 8 years older than me) She has done so much for me.

To name a few:

  • She has corrected my wrongs and praised all my rights.
  • She has pushed me to be a better version of myself.
  • She has made me see my self-worth.
  • She has always let me hang out with her friends. (and they love me too)
  • She has been a supporter in my decisions.
  • She has listened to me when I needed an ear.
  • She has given me the last bite of peach cobbler. (occasionally)
  • She has never let me down.
  • She has never once judged me.
  • She has always loved me.
  • She has been a friend when I didn't have friends.
  • She has laughed at my corny jokes even if they weren't really funny.
  • She's helped me with countless amounts of homework. (thanks for letting me borrow, I mean keep your TI-84)
  • She has put me before herself.
  • She has mended all my bruises. (physically and mentally)
  • She has done SUPER in the role of big sister.

& she probably hasn't had a dull moment in her life since the day I was born.

She's the sole person who can brighten my day with a simple text about something funny mom and dad have done, or a text about what dress would look best on her. I look forward to every conversation with her because they get better as time goes on.

If you have a sister or sisters, make sure you thank them for all the good and all the bad times you’ve had. Make sure they know just what they mean to you, because it is overlooked and taken for granted so often. God blessed you with a forever friend, so be the best you possibly can.

"Even though at times it seemed we were more like enemies, I'd do it all again. My sister, my friend."

Here's what I don't tell you enough.

When God paired us together he gifted me a forever-best friend.

I love you,

Abs

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
